We need more specific problems. When you go to the Write page, what is the problem you are having writing your poetry?

Taking a post directly from Word to your WordPress editor is not a good idea… the formatting will be messed up and you’ll spend all your time fixing unnecessary problems.
Formatting certain styles of poetry is difficult if not impossible in WordPress. Straight up verse by paragraph is okay, but if you want it to look and feel like a George Bowering poem you’re pretty much SOL.

@jayepalmer68: As feartheseeds says, you should never paste directly from Word (or any other code-rich source). If you do that, you introduce lots of unnecessary and sometimes detrimental pieces of code that might even mess up your whole blog. You can safely paste from Word if you use the “Paste from Word” or the “Paste as plain text” buttons of the post editor.
As for formatting, just about everything is possible via html coding; see here for examples:

And please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know. We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

HTML was never meant to be a page layout system, but it’s not impossible to approximate line spacing and indents with a few HTML codes.
And there are off-line editors which would help with the formatting. Live Writer. -
