Point my wordpress.com domain to Bluehost

    Hi,

    I have purchased the premium subscription a few days ago on WordPress.com but would like to host my domain on Bluehost using WordPress.org. I want to cancel my package within the 30 day grace period, but WordPress will only allow you to transfer your domain name after 60 days.

    Does anyone have any advice? I don’t want to lose my domain name.

    Hi there, the 60-day waiting period for transferring newly registered domains comes from ICANN and not WordPressdotcom.

    While you are waiting to transfer your domain away from WordPressdotcom, you can update your name servers here in your domain dashboard to point to your Bluehost WordPress website. You can learn more about this in our support guide at https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/

    Since you have an upgrade plan that gives you access to LiveChat and email support, if you have other questions or need more assistance with this, you can post at https://wordpress.com/help/contact Support will also be able to help you with refunding the non-domain part of your plan.

    @simplyputcontent I can see you didn’t get in touch with us about this yet, but if the article @justjennifer sent is confusing at all, we’re happy to walk you through.

    Basically you can point your domain to whatever host you’d like, then after the 60 days are up, you’ll be able to transfer it there, too. Just know pointing can take a day or two to take full effect.

    Thanks for your advice! We’ve now pointed the domain to a new host. Should we sign up with the new host now or wait until the changes have been made? Also, will we be able to continue building our site within that 60 day period?

    Hello again, Normally one would point a domain once you’ve purchased new web hosting elsewhere.

    Regardless, as long as you have the Premium plan, please directly contact Support via the link at https://wordpress.com/help/contact as both @supernovia and I suggested earlier and you can refer them to this thread for info.
