Point my WordPress domain to my new Canva website?

I have an older domain name (mapbliss.com) registered with WordPress. It used to point to my WP site, but I’ve closed that site and created a new one with Canva Websites (https://mapbliss.com/mapbliss). I want to point the mapbliss.com domain to my new Canva site but keep my domain registration with WP. Is that possible? I followed some set up instructions from Canva for changing the DNS record at WP, but when I try to go to mapbliss.com I just get a 404 site. The full url mapbliss.com/mapbliss works fine though.

Yes, you can point your WordPress-registered domain (mapbliss.com) to your Canva Website (https://mapbliss.com/mapbliss) while keeping the domain registered with WordPress. However, it looks like your DNS settings might not be fully configured. Here’s how to fix it:

    1. Set Up a Redirect (If You Want to Keep the Main Domain)

Since your Canva site is at mapbliss.com/mapbliss, but you want users to access it via mapbliss.com, you need to set up a redirect:

    • Log in to WordPress.com → Go to Domains.
    • Select mapbliss.com.
    • Look for a Forwarding or Redirect option.
    • Set it to redirect mapbliss.com → mapbliss.com/mapbliss.
    • Save changes.

This ensures that when people visit mapbliss.com, they get automatically redirected to your Canva site.

    2. Change DNS Records (If You Want a Direct Connection)

If you want mapbliss.com to load your Canva site directly (instead of redirecting), you’ll need to update your DNS settings:Step 1: Find Canva’s DNS Instructions

    • Go to your Canva Website settings.
    • Look for instructions related to custom domains.
    • Canva should provide CNAME and A records.

Step 2: Update DNS on WordPress

    1. Log in to WordPress.com → Domains → Manage DNS.
    2. Remove any existing A or CNAME records pointing to WordPress servers.
    3. Add a new A record (if Canva provides one) OR:
      • Add a CNAME record as Canva instructs (usually something like yourdomain.com → Canva URL).
    4. Save and wait up to 24-48 hours for propagation.

    3. Check SSL & Clear Cache

    • If your domain doesn’t load properly after updating the DNS, ensure that SSL (HTTPS) is enabled on Canva.
    • Clear your browser cache or try accessing your site from an incognito window.

Final Check: Does Your Canva Site Work on the Root Domain?

If your Canva site requires mapbliss.com/mapbliss to function, you may not be able to completely map it to mapbliss.com. In that case, using redirects (Step 1) is the best option.

  • Hey! You can definitely point your domain elsewhere while keeping it registered here with WordPress.com

The 404 error page suggests that there may be an issue with the domain configuration setup at Canva. I recommend reaching out to Canva Support for further clarification on how to ensure that your domain is correctly linked to your new site.

Additionally, I’m curious to know why you chose to set up your new site on Canva. If there’s anything we could have assisted you with in your decision-making process, please let me know!

Ok, I had to reset all the WP DNS info to what Canva requested. Got that working again but mapbliss.com was still not connected, found the Canva add URL redirect option and now it works! Thank you!

FYI, on why I switched away from WP for site hosting, it’s basically the UI. WP is fine, but too complex for what I need to do. Canva is much more drag and drop but I can still customize the layout completely. It’s mostly the WYSIWYG interface I guess.
