Point my wordpress.com domain to Bluehost
-
Hi,
I registered a new premium account a while ago on wordpress.com, took the domain http://www.semirfific.com and now I want to point it to Bluehost. Then I ended my premium deal with wordpress since I would use Bluehost.
However when I try to log in to my account on wordpress.com now to point the domain to their servers that domain name isn’t visible. How is it possible to do that now?
I followed the steps in this link: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/#changing-domain-name-servers
But I can’t seem to find http://www.semirfific.com there anymore after I quit my premium account there, I can only see http://semirfific.wordpress.com, but that one isn’t the one I want to transfer.
The support from Bluehost told me Wild West Domains owned the name but when I contacted them they told me to contact WordPress since I created my account here. However, since I do not have any premium account I can’t contact anyone from WordPress in an other way then this forum.
Please help!
Thank you in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I looked up your domain in the WhoIs database and here is what I found:
http://awesomescreenshot.com/0c55zjkp85This lookup information is telling you that your domain is in fact registered by Wild West Domains (good job Bluehost) and the nameservers are pointing to WordPress.com.
Since you don’t have a premium account with WordPress.com, you will need to point your nameservers to Bluehost in order to build a website on your domain.
So the solution to your problem would be to log into your account at Wild West Domains here: https://www.wildwestdomains.com/
and point the nameservers to Bluehost. To get the proper nameservers for Bluehost, you will need to contact Bluehost. They typically look like this:
ns1.bluehost.com
ns2.bluehost.combut your nameservers may be different, depending on the type of hosting you setup with Bluehost.
Bluehost must have been under the impression that you are trying to build your website at WordPress.com.
Keep in mind that if you do this process, you will need to re-build your site using the self-hosted version of WordPress (or another website-building software).
If you want to keep any of your existing content from https://semirfific.wordpress.com/, then simply export your content from your WordPress.com dashboard before you make the nameserver change.
Here is an article to help you with exporting content if you need it:

Hi Cat,
Firstly, thank you for a very good answer, you made it very clear to a mind that are new to this.
I don’t have an account on Wild West Domains, it registered there automatically when I signed up on WordPress.com(got info from Bluehost that they automatically get registered there when you sign up to WordPress.com).
I just tried to sign in with the same info as I have on WordPress.com and it didn’t work, but I’ll give them a call and see if they can help. Last time I called them they referred me to WordPress.com.. Maybe another operator can help me more than the last one did.
Will let you guys know if it worked or not.

Ah, thanks and you’re welcome. I didn’t know that about the registration process for domains at WordPress.com/WildWest and now I do! :)
That explains why Bluehost gave you the direction they did.
It sounds to me like you are either going to have to transfer your domain name registration away from WordPress.com/WildWest or pay WordPress.com to change your namservers to point to Bluehost.
Here is an article on transferring your domain name registration away from WordPress.com:

Thanks once again for the quick reply Cat.
I sent an e-mail with this problem to support@wordpress.com, the guy from Wild West Domains recommended me to do that.
The method you are recommending me to do is not available, I have tried that one but http://www.semirfific.com isn’t available in that list, it’s only http://www.semirfific.wordpress.com. So I really can’t seem to understand where http://www.semirfific.com are now, perhaps it disappeared when I downgraded myself from the premium account.
I hope that the guys from WordPress support can help me with the e-mail I sent.

OK, just in case, I’ve added the modlook tag to this thread to draw a Happiness Engineer to help you. Please be patient while s/he gets to your post, and make sure that you also subscribe to this thread so you know when someone responds.
Best,

Ok. Update.
I received that support@wordpress.com is a unmonitored email and it says:
“Please contact us by re-sending your request through our contact form, where staff members are available for live chat between 7:00am and 8:00pm Eastern Standard time. During other times, you can use the contact form to send us a short email.”
First of all, when staff members are not available the contact form goes to the forum. Are staff members available for everyone during 7 am – 8 pm? Or just premium users etc?

Hey there,
@Cat has you going in the right direction. But, here are few additional things:
Wild West Domains are our registry partners, so if you ever have trouble with your domain, it would be better to contact us. We usually contact them for you if you have any issues!
When you canceled your premium upgrade, you inadvertently canceled your domain subscription as well. I’ll contact WWD to see if I can get that back for you. Once I get the domain back, you can point the nameservers over to your Bluehost site. You will not be able to transfer the domain over to Bluehost until after 60 days of being registered with us per ICANN regulations.
For instructions on how to point your domain nameservers over to another host, please visit our support page:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/
Be sure to contact Bluehost to receive the nameservers for your site.
I’ll keep you updated once I hear from WWD about the status of your domain.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

My pleasure! And may I ask, staff-doublebassd, how come under your name it says “Staff” and not “Happiness Engineer?”
-
You know, I have no idea ¯_(ツ)_/¯.
All the other HEs that work the forums have staff under their names as well, but if I remember correctly, I have seen some that have Happiness Engineer under their names. I take it is the default setting for titles for staff, but if there is a way to change it, I have not a clue how, haha.
-
…nevermind. Found out how. =) We have a custom name field under our admin page that gives us the option to call ourselves whatever we want.
-
-
Your domain is back up and running! Let me know if you have any other issues!
-
I have to look into that – I’m not sure if we’ve ever updated titles in the forums for those who aren’t staff and moderators. However, your help speaks for itself and is appreciated. =)
-
Well, leave it to me to suggest the never-done-before stuff and thanks! http://gph.is/1gYOMm8
It’s really nice to see “Happiness Engineer” under your name instead of “Staff!”
-
Heh. I’m not saying we never have – I’m just saying I’m not familiar of a time in which we have. But, I am looking into it for you.
I’ll keep you updated on what I find out. =)
