Point my wordpress.com domain to Bluehost

Ah, got it, well, no worries from my end.

I’m grateful to be allowed to help and demonstrate my skillz.

My intentions are to raise the happiness factor and do no harm.

And I’m sure there are other volunteers like me who would enjoy having “Volunteer” under their name instead of “Member.” It may give them more of a sense of ownership and pride in offering assistance to WordPress users.

But either way, I’m happy to help. :)

The WordPress community has given me so much help already.

Thank you both for the replies.

staff-doublebassd thank for giving me a good description of how to solve this issue.

I saw that I have http://www.semirfific.com in my admin area of wordpress. Can I point the name already now and then later on when the 60 days have passed use it? Or do I have to wait for 60 days?

Thank you very much both of you for the help I received, it’s appreciated!

  • Hey there!

You can point the nameservers to Bluehost right now to use with your site there. Transferring the domain over to Bluehost will be available for you to do in 60 days.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

    Hi,

Ok, then I guess if I do that the site will be up and running as usual as soon as I set it up and nothing will be effected on that part, it’s just that it will be transfered to Bluehost after 60 days?

If that is the case I think i’m good to go, and I thank both of you guys for all the help I received.

Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, if you point your nameservers to Bluehost, you will need to re-build your site on their server using the self-hosted version of WordPress or some other website builder.

This involves installing WordPress, choosing a theme and importing your content that you exported from WordPress.com (if you did the export).

And if you want to transfer the domain, you will need to do that manually (it will not happen on its own).

    Hope this helps!

No way I am in that number! Please read the relevant support doc at https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-com-volunteers/ Any member who has a meaningful answer that actually resolves another member’s issues can post into any thread.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I understood it. I have not yet started to build my website, will do it in the weekend. So I will point it to Bluehost tomorrow and start build. And the domain i will transfer and it will go through 60 days after I registered it.

I guess I can use that domain name meanwhile even if it still will be with wordpress.com, and still make the website visible and build on Bluehost?

    Thanks!

Or sorry, perhaps not I’m done.

I get this message when trying to transfer the domain to Bluehost.

“It is only possible to transfer a domain after 60 days after the registration date. This 60 day lock is required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and cannot be waived.”

Isn’t it possible to make the transfer anyway around this?

  • Hey there,

    Remember I mentioned previously:

Once I get the domain back, you can point the nameservers over to your Bluehost site. You will not be able to transfer the domain over to Bluehost until after 60 days of being registered with us per ICANN regulations.

That is the message that you are receiving. In order to use the domain on your Bluehost site is to point the nameservers over to Bluehost:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/

Only after 60 days you can transfer the domain.

Let me know if you have any questions about that.

    Thanks!
