point wordpress domain to blogger

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello there. I have decided to use blogger for the time being instead of wordpress (no problem with wordpress, just feels right for me at the moment) and am trying to point my wordpress domain (www.yogimommi.com) in that direction.. (www.yogimommi.blogspot.ca). I have little to no knowledge of html and am finding any directions I have totally confusing. I NEED HELP PLEASE! Changing the DNS is not an options it seems as I have to generate CNAME records. I am also suppose to generate A records as well which it seems I cannot even do with wordpress? That said perhaps it is a better option to transfer the domain to another registrar such as godaddy where things seems easier.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have spent way too much time struggling with this “simple” little issue :)

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for contacting us. I’ll be happy to help.

If you want to use your custom domain, yogimommi.com, with a Blogger blog, you have two solutions:

    * You can transfer the domain name to another registrar like GoDaddy, by following these instructions:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

    * You can keep your domain registered with WordPress.com, and point it to Blogger as explained here:

    http://support.google.com/blogger/bin/static.py?hl=en&ts=1233381&page=ts.cs

Can you reply to confirm before I make these changes for you?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Thanks for your reply and and the info. I think I would like to transfer it to GoDaddy so I can have full reign. I am sorry, I just wasn’t quite clear if this was something you’ll be able to take care of from your end or I am to simply follow the explanation in the link you sent? Please just let me know :)

Thanks again, I really appreciate your assistance!

    Have a great day.
    Rebecca.

  • Hi Rebecca,

We can do either one! Whichever you’re comfortable with. It sounds like you’d prefer to have us take care of it on our end, but if you’re feeling up to it, you can certainly follow those instructions yourself. I don’t want to step in, until you let me know which you prefer :)

    Thanks!

Hello! Thanks so much for your response. My apologies for my tardy one. You are right! I would be greatly appreciative if you could do that for me. Just very busy with a little one hence technicalities are kind of at the end of my to do list.

I assume someone will let me know when the change has been made?

Thanks again and have a wonderful day!
    Rebecca.

  • Hi there,

I started this process for you, and all you need to do is finish up with your registrar :)

You’re going to get an email shortly with an Authorization Code. You can see what it will look like here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/#send-the-transfer-authorization-code

This page also contains the next steps you will have to complete with your new registrar.

You’ll get emails at each new step, so make sure to read them carefully, because each will include some sort of activation or verification link. If you get one that’s just a head’s up with no link, that’s fine, too :) Just make sure that in each one that does require your approval, you are able to give it, otherwise the transfer won’t go through. The process usually takes a few days, with emails slinging about, so it’s not like you have to sit next to your computer waiting for emails (they won’t expire), but I would try to take care of them about once a day.

Here is the specific information from GoDaddy:
    http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/1592/transferring-domain-names-to-us

Just let me know if you hit a snag!

Cheers! (PS, I have 13-mo-old twins myself, so I totally understand how stuff gets prioritized differently now :))

OH my! You must be busy!!! :) I feel bad bothering you about this! I have kind of hit a snag though. I followed the instructions and seem to be missing something. When I get to the pending transfers page I don’t have any and then when I try to see about requesting one it says my domain is not available to transfer. I wouldn’t be shocked if I’m missing something small but I can’t figure out what it is.

Thanks so much, you’ve been a really great help!

    Rebecca.

  • It is no bother at all! :)

So I checked your whois (that is the place we look to see what the status of your domain is), and it looks like it’s fine. It says it was updated Nov 12, 2012, however. Did you make a change to your address with your registrar then? If you did, you could have accidentally triggered a 60-day lock. If you didn’t, your domain should be available to transfer.

If you did make that edit, just let me know, because we may be able to help you get it sorted out, too.

    Cheers!

Hello again! I hope you and your family have had a nice holiday season.

Now that you mention it, I did actually mess around in that area a bit as I had decided to point my domain back at my wordpress.com blog after giving self hosting with bluehost a go. I have been kind of all over the place trying to figure out what the best fit for my blog is and had given self hosting a try, only to realize that realistically, I did not want to spend the time figuring everything out, nor did I really have the time to begin with when all I really wanted to do was write. I don’t know if making such a change could have had an impact with regards to what you’re speaking of? I did quite a bit of messing around trying to figure out how to point my domain to blogger and my phone number as well as last name have changed since I purchased my domain so there is also a chance I have at some point tried to change this info as well. I’m sorry I can’t be more specific… it’s all kind of a blur at this point.

Eventually we will get there I’m sure! If anything else come to mind I will let you know.

Thanks so much for your patience!
It’s not hard to tell you have two little ones to practice with :)

    have a great day
    Rebecca.

  • Hi again Rebecca,

So it does sound like you triggered a lock by changing your name.

Please send an email from the original email address on file for the domain and include the following information:

*The domain name that has the 60-day lock because of a “contact information change”
*An explanation and description of what information was changed
*A request asking them if they can undo the change and unlock the domain

They should be able to help you get everything figured out from there.

    Cheers!

Well hello there :) Sorry, I have been on a bit of a technical hiatus… hope all is well with you these day. So you were right, I did trigger a lock by accident however by the time I got around to affirming this, it was only going to be a week or so before it was lifted so now we should be good to go. I was going to try to take care of it myself but then I figured I might save myself the headache and ask for your help if it’s not too much trouble. I’m sure you’ll take about 1/100th of the time I will to get it done.

Thanks so much for everything and I look forward to being in touch again soon!

    Rebecca.

  • Hi again Rebecca!

I’ve started this process for you. You will get an email from the registrar with your Authorization Code. If you visit this link, you’ll see what the email will look like:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/#send-the-transfer-authorization-code

Once you have the transfer code, all that’s left is to head to your new registrar’s website and start the transfer. How this would actually work depends on your registrar.

Here are the instructions for GoDaddy:
    http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/1592/transferring-domain-names-to-us

You’ll have to finish up the process from here. But don’t worry – you’ll get emails all along the way as you work through the process!

    Best of luck :)
