Point WordPress.com blog to WordPress.org site
-
I need to point my old blog to my new site. My old blog is on wordpress.com. My new site is on wordpress.org. How do I do this?
-
Hello!
Take a look at this topic, which includes some helpful instructions on moving from WordPress.com to WordPress.org: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
A guided transfer sounds like what you’re looking for, and you can find more information on that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/
As the posts state, it’s a paid transfer, with a one-time fee of $129.00 to make the switch. Hope that helps.

Thanks for responding! I have already transferred my entire blog to wordpress.org a few weeks ago. Now, I just want to know how to set wordpress.com so that when someone clicks on it they are automatically taken to wordpress.org.

Aha, my mistake :)
In that case, a site redirect might do the trick? Here’s how you go about that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/
Once again, it’s a paid upgrade of $11 a year. But it should redirect all incoming traffic to your .org blog from that point onwards.

Hmm… Is that the only option? I thought there was a place that I could go in to do that myself.

Not within WordPress.com, as far as I’m aware.
I’m also going to tag this for staff attention, just in case they have another option to offer. Hope you can find the service you’re looking for :)

Hi @my30days2change,
Could you clarify the URLs of the sites you’re referring to? I believe you’re trying to redirect intentionalhappiness.wordpress.com to choose2bhappy.net so that when someone enters the former, they end up on your new site. Is that correct?
If so, @geekinthegirl is correct – you would need to purchase the Site Redirect upgrade shown here:
For this to work optimally, you’ll also want to change the permalinks on your self-hosted site to match the WordPress.com variation. That way, if someone entered the following URL:
https://intentionalhappiness.wordpress.com/2015/03/03/some-advice-i-would-give-to-my-younger-self/
They would find the following post:
http://choose2bhappy.net/30-day-challenge/gratitude/some-advice-i-would-give-to-my-younger-self/
If you notice, the latter URL is missing the date. You can change this by going to Settings -> Permalinks on your self-hosted site and changing it to the Day and Name option.
Once you do that, the date will be added to the URLs of posts on your self-hosted site. You may need to clear your browser’s cache after doing this for the URLs to work correctly. Instructions to do that can be found here:

Let me explain my confusion… My new blog is hosted by siteground. I asked them this question recently and this is what they said…
“the domain is hosted by MarkMonitor Inc.
so you can either contact their support or wordpress
and ask them to point the domain to SiteGround using these dns’s (and then they provided the dns’s)”so basically, I am trying to change the name of the dns at wordpress to the ones for siteground.
I tried to contact markmonitor and since I haven’t heard back I am trying to contact wordpress but I can’t find wordpress support so i posted it here.
Jeremy – does your answer apply to my specific question? I may not have explained it well at first.

Thanks for clarifying! So, it looks like your name servers for choose2bhappy.net are already pointed to SiteGround. You can see that on the public record here:
http://who.is/whois/choose2bhappy.net
The domain should be loading your SiteGround site already. Is that happening on your side?
The domain appears to be registered at ENOM, which is where you would be able to change your name servers/DNS records. I’m not quite sure why they pointed you to WordPress.com. Since the domain isn’t registered at WordPress.com or pointed here, we actually can’t affect the domain at all.
We can help you point intentionalhappiness.wordpress.com to choose2bhappy.net through the redirect upgrade. The former (intentionalhappiness.wordpress.com) is a subdomain of WordPress.com so you wouldn’t be able to set custom DNS records. You would just have to use the Site Redirect upgrade.
Does that help to clarify?
