pointing my wordpress domain to my tumblr site

  • Unknown's avatar

    hi there,
i would like my wordpress domain, evantrine.com, to point to my tumblr site, evantrine.tumblr.com. so that when someone types in “evantrine.com”, the tumblr site is loaded.

apparently a nameserver change is needed, and not just an A-record or CNAME ( see https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/changing-dns-to-tumblr?replies=2 )

    someone help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Evan – Tumblr requires that you use an A record to map a domain to them, which isn’t an optimal way to do things through our system. We recommend that you first transfer your domain out to a full-service registrar, such as GoDaddy. You’ll more easily be able to manage your domain with your Tumblr site from there.

You can transfer your domain by following these instructions:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/#set-the-domain-manager-password

If you have any trouble, please let me know which step you’re getting stuck at, and what happens when you try to follow it. I’ll be happy to help you out!

    hi eurello.
finally had time to work through this today, and took all the necessary steps to switch my domain to godaddy. however, the transfer was denied by wordpress. i looked in my control panel and it says my transfer is locked until 11/24/13. is there a reason this might be? i’ve owned this domain for years, so it isn’t an under-60-days issue. any help would be great, thanks!

  • Hi Evan- It appears you recently changed some of your registered contact information, which locks a domain up for another 60 days.

So that you don’t have to wait, I’ve gone ahead and pointed your domain to Tumblr using the A record method. Give it a few hours to take effect, and then there are likely some steps you need to take on their end to attach it to your specific blog.

I do recommend that when the hold period is up, though, you still go ahead and transfer the domain. :) Let me know if you need any further help!
