Pointing to a different domain from another domain.

I need anyone’s help and advice. I first started out as a blog using wordpress’s domain name. After about 6 months I bought a domain name and used the name with my wordpress blog. I bought the option to redirect the old links to the new name and got other options ie taking out ads and others.

    Here is my question.

I realized that I need to change the current domain name I have right now and point it to a different domain name altogether. Can I point the links from my current domain to the “new domain” without any problems? or will all of my current links will be “dead” and I have to start all over again with the links?

To clarify my point, I know that when I first wrote in example.wordpress.com, all of my previous blogs were relinked to the “new” domain address.
BUT will the links to the “new” domain address relink to the another “new” domain? Is there a function and anyone know what to use?

    Thanks ahead.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Do you want both domains to point to one blog? For example, I have some sites pointing to one blog.

If this is what you want then yes you can do it through your registrar’s website (the people you bought the domains from). If this is not what you are asking then please give examples.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. This is what I want to do.

    For example:

My current domain is http://www.current.com I am hosting it by using the wordpress.com site which is pointed to http://www.current.org.

Now I want to stop wordpress from pointing to http://www.current.org and start pointing it to http://www.future.com .

If I do that what will happen to all my articles written with the current.org website if I point it to future.com?

Will all my articles be forwarded to the new address link or will they all become dead links?

The reason I am asking becuase I am concerned about SEO.

    Thanks again.

I think you can do it but I suggest wait until someone else replies (probably WP staff) because I haven’t done anything like that before.

Thanks. Will wait for WP staff.

  • Sure, all you need to do is add the newer domain to the same blog via Store -> Domains in your blog’s Dashboard and set it as primary.
