Poll information getting cut off by theme (Oxygen).

    Hey there. I started playing around with the Quiz feature but this applies to all polls from PollDaddy – Much of my question is being cut off by the theme elements in the side bar in my preview view.

    Is there a way to change the text size or line length, perhaps it is a flaw of the preview? I’d really like to do more silly quizzes, it’s a great format for satire.

    Thanks!

    Hi there, I’m not seeing any polls or quizzes in your sidebars right now. Did you by chance add one and then visit your site to see if it is cut off on your actual site?

    If you can add one, or point me to where you have one, I would be happy to have a look and see if we can get this sorted out for you.

    I never posted it. Also, let me apologize, I poorly explained – I made a post with a poll (draft) and the questions get cut off by the information in MY side bar (either the top posts or the Twitter plugin) as if the poll is unaware that it is behind the widgets on my sidebar. Basically I need to resize the “quiz” so it is the same size as a “narrow” poll (I’m not using the admin like I did in the past with polls, I went to poll daddy directly and am cutting and pasting per their instructions).

    Hope that helps clear it up, I am fairly competent but don’t necessarily always know how to describe my issues.

    If you still have the draft post with the poll in it, I can see your draft posts and can take a look. Can you give me the title of that draft post?

    Nifty. Here’s two links to the same content:
    https://wordpress.com/post/thisshouldbethenews.com/3534
    https://thisshouldbethenews.wordpress.com/?p=3534&preview=true&iframe=true

    It’s embarrassing to admit the title is “QUIZ! LEMMY, THE DALI LLAMA OR THE DELI LLEMMY – WHO SAID IT?!” but the nature of my blog is rather silly. Really appreciate you looking into something so frivolous!

  • Could you try removing the hard-coded width declaration from the poll shortcode and see if that does the trick?

    width=30%

    Thanks, unfortunately it had no width specification. I tried adding yours as well as removing height=”auto” just to see what happens (as well as trying auto and several other values for width).

  • Thanks, unfortunately it had no width specification.

    Hmm, that’s odd, this is what I see:

    I think that’s just because I failed to change it back after adding it myself (thinking no value = default and that was my issue). I just changed it to 10% just to see if maybe the value is too high and still no luck.

  • Ah OK, thanks for explaining.

    I think I’ve sorted out what’s happening. While inline polls do allow you to choose from three different widths (narrow, medium, or wide) the quiz format, which you’re using, has a fixed 640px width.

    In themes with very narrow columns such as Oxygen, this isn’t wide enough to display the entire content, unfortunately. The good news is that I got a complimentary upgrade to your Polldaddy account so you can modify that 640px width to narrow it. :)

    If you go into the Quiz Style area of your poll, you can click on “Custom” to access the poll’s stylesheet directly: https://cloudup.com/cIjSu6ACqb4

    In the custom stylesheet, look for this section starting at line 45:

    .PDF_pageInner
    {
    	margin:auto;
    	width:640px;
    	background:#fff;
    }

    Change 640px to a value that better fits your theme, like 325px, and save your changes. If you refresh your post with the poll you should see the new, narrower width.

    Let me know how it goes.

    All is bliss!

    That worked like a charm, thanks so much for the detailed answer and the upgrade. You certainly have engineered some happiness in me here today. I’m going to play around with it more now that I know it’s do-able and hope to have something live later this evening.

    Cheers!

  • Lovely! That looks great now. I’m glad I could help!
