Polls
-
Hi, i’m trying to insert in the sidebar with the widgets a poll! I tried with dPolls.com and Polldaddy, but when i copy the HTML code on the Text widgets the sidebar doesn’t show the Poll.
please could you help me to understand and fix the problem?
thanks in advance! -
Could you post the code up here in the forums? Anything that has javascript, embeds or similar scripting language are stripped out of wordpress.com blogs for security reasons. Post the code in here using the backticks around it so that is shows up. That is the key to the left of the 1 key on your keyboard.

The only kind of polls that I know of that work at WordPress.com are the ones from http://luckypolls.com. -
Hi Trent,
thanks a lot for your cooperation. This is the code:
<script language=”javascript” src=”http://www.polldaddy.com/p/49784.js”> </script> <noscript> Poll – Take Our Poll </noscript>please could you help me about the use of backticks? sorry but i’m new.
thanks a lot -
I’m sorry but javascript cannot be used on our blogs on this multi-user blogging platform http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/javascript-can-i-use-that-on-my-blog/
The only polls we can use here are those in html. Perhaps you should check out http://luckypolls.com as their polls can be used on our blogs here. -
Luckypolls just have a terrible poll-system. If you leave a vote they’ll ask you for a name and if you skip that second question the vote is not registred.
Also found out that radio buttons doesn’t work.
So is there any alternatives? I just want a simple poll with no extras. Just easy and no extra clicking for the voters.
-
I’m sorry but there are no alternatives that I’m aware of at this time. You can send in a feedback to staff requesting a wordpress.com poll widget be introduced and, if so, please include your reasons.
-
Most of the polls available online are either form or javascripts based. Both of those are removed from all user input as they’re a security risk since this is a shared environment and if they were allowed, it would put of the blogs here at risk.
(I don’t think much of luckypolls either.)
-
This sucks! I want to be able to make polls!!! Waaaaaaaahhhh! Who do I complain to? We need our polling devices! luckypolls doesn’t really work either. well, the one where you have to click a link out of the site works, but I don’t like that….I say it half works. this is sad…:(
-
You use your feedback button, like Timethief told you. Nobody here in the forum can make those kinds of changes; we’re all just volunteers.
-
Found another poll site, not sure if it’s better than luckypolls, but it does give it in html code, I think.
pollcode.com, it didn’t work entirely with me, but that’s just me!

here is a post that has reviews of sites where you can make surveys/polls for your wordpress.com blog. please scroll down for polls.
http://shongjog.wordpress.com/2007/08/04/websites-that-offer-services-like-polls-and-surveys/
all of them provide a url that can be linked to from your blog.
-
When reading the list in the blog post above please do note that those 3rd party providers who state instructions for “wordpress” are almost always referring to wordpress.org blogs and not to wordpress.com blogs. Unless “wordpress.com” is clearly stated you will find that the widgets provided are in javascript. On wordpress.com blogs we cannot use polls that use javascript. We can only use those in html.
-
-
please note that the list includes ONLY sites that provide with a url. so it is wordpress.com-compatible. perfect for anyone who doesn’t mind linking to the poll rather than having it work in the sidebar.
-
Thanks for clarifying that none of those polls in your post can be used in a sidebar inside of a text widget. But a link to them can be placed on a page, in a post or in a text widget.
-
just letting you all know that the list provided earlier now includes links to sample polls. so you can see if you like the look of a poll before you make one.
also the recurring formatting issues in the list are taken care of. thanks for your patience!
@timethief,
thanks for thanking yet again! and as always, you are very welcome : ) -
