Polls, audio clips
-
I have stumbled through to the point of creating polls and audio clips, but I can’t get them to publish. I do not see a click that says “publish.” Help please.

Hi djrebel,
I assume you’ve upgraded to the obligatory space Upgrade. If not, read further below. If you already did, once you’ve correctly uploaded your .mp3 clip, the right-hand side of the new Editor has a large colored button labeled “Update Page”. I figured it replaces the former “Publish” button. Once you click on that and let it do its thing for a few seconds, go visit your site through the “visit site” option right next to the Blog’s title on your working page banner. If properly uploaded, your clip should be there.
I’ve been struggling through the same thing for a Photoshop class, as I felt ambitious enough to add an audio clip to my collage. After many days (yes…) of reading forums, help and instruction pages, I found out you must first subscribe to a SPACE UPGRADE. Not a -free ads- upgrade or anything else. A SPACE UPGRADE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WILL DO. Next, once you upgraded (20 points minimum; the new available points will show almost immediately on top of your logged-in profile page), you then go to “upload file” on the post page you’re writing on, choose the music-note icon; it should then open on to an upload page that now, besides the usual jpg, odt file format options, should also have added to the file options description the following .mp3, .mov etc. options. Then choose the mp3 or other from your library or hard-drive, then click on “find URL” or “post URL”, and finally click on “insert into post.
I still haven’t figured out how the wp player will play the clip properly, though, as it keeps telling me “Error” . . .
Hope this helps and good luck!

Photcat, Thanks for your response. I have gotten the upgrade you speak of. As I look at the “add new post” page right now, I can insert an existing audio clip from the library. It looks the same as all the audio clips I’ve done in the past that used to work. I publish the post, but I do not see a link that you can highlight and play. Also, as I look at this page right now, I see options in the “publish box” that say, save draft, preview and publish. I don’t see an “update page” option.
Please advise further if you can.
Thanks.

Hi again djrebel,
Here’s another thing I just noticed: across from the “Edit Page” title, and to the right of the screen is a pale little “Screen Options” drop-down button: if you click on that, it will reveal . . . your screen options –they seem hidden by default– that include “Publish”, “Attributes,” “Page Slug,” and “Discussion.” You can add or remove a check mark to each of those to either activate or disable them.
Hope this helps! :-) Catherine/Photcat. -
Hi djrebel,
Sorry I didn’t’ realize you answered so quickly: in order to play your clip, you need to 1. choose the “Post URL” or “Find URL” on the same page that first successfully uploaded your clip; then 2. click on “insert into post”. If you only did “insert into post”, the clip won’t play. I’m not sure whether you did that. I didn’t at first, which got me to delete the mp3 file and start over.To have a wp player play the clip, you need to download the clip’s html on the page. The plain one looks like this:
[audio http://wpcom.files.wordpress.com/djrebelsong.mp3%5D
note two things:
a. there’s a space between “audio” and “html”
b. /djrebel.mp3] is just a filler; insert your relevant file’s name there after the /
My player should play, but it still doesn’t . . . as I have next to zero knowledge of html… I got this far because I finally cried uncle and emailed the terrific staff at wordpress.com, and followed their suggested steps. Let me know if you have any success and if you can see what “I” did wrong! ;-) . . . Catherine/Photcat. -
djrebel,
I hope this is still relevant: I’ve found out how to get the player to play your song:
If you go to
http://photcat.wordpress.com/projects/collage/
there are two “wp player” posted for the time being”
1. The first one doesn’t accept the sound clip, and doesn’t work (opens up but stays silent)
2. The second does open and yes, plays the clip;
This is how I changed the html inside the [audio ----- .mp3] brackets.
here:
instead of simply having
[audio http://wpcom.files.wordpress.com/birds2edit2.mp3%5D
I modified this by
inserting the name of the entire .mp3 URL:
[audio http://photcat.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/birds2edit2.mp3%5D
NOW THE PLAYER WORKS! (for more option regarding adding color to the player etc., look here:
http://support.wordpress.com/audio/3/
As to the sound of my posted mp3, the original clip was recorded with my internal microphone, so it might sound scratchy. I’ll have to refine the sound clip itself and repost.
OK, that’s it for now . . . Catherine/Photcat. -
Catherine, I appreciate your help on this. I’ve been trying to do several things at once today and will process all this later. Thanks so much for your time and assistance. Merry CHRISTmas.

djrebel, Thank you and Merry CHRISTmas to you and your loved ones too :-)
–CAVEAT:
On the last post, when you go to the URL regarding the option to change colors on the player, WATCH OUT: the posted html for the player is wrong: inside the bracket, it should include that darn space between the first word, “audio”, and the next word, “html”.
If the space is not there, the wp player won’t work…
It must read like this example:
[audio http://wpcom.files.wordpress.com/birds2edit2.mp3%5D
Signing out, with bells ringing and stars shining . . Catherine/Photcat. -
@photocat, I have fixed the space in the support page. Thanks for letting us know about that. Also, note that you should not copy the html directly from the support page. Instead, type in “[audio ", make sure to add a space and then paste in a working mp3 link followed by a closing bracket "]“. Your last example looks good except you have used the beginning of the URL from the example code instead of a working mp3 link.

@designsimply, thanks so much! Yes I see what you mean with the link, can’t correct it now. It was meant as a visual example only….Frankly, you guys rock :-)
