Poor Image quality When uploaded-WP keeps adding "?w=" to jpg

I have this issue across my whole site on any blog post. When I upload an image, it becomes “blurry” and the quality goes way down. I’ve tried using big images, small, exact sizes etc and I still have this issue.

If I right-click on a photo and open it in a new tab, WP is adding “?w=” and if you delete it the image instantly becomes clearer.

Why is it doing this? It happens no matter the device I use, so it isn’t (doesn’t seem) to be just one monitor or device.

Here is an example. The logo especially becomes blurred. Remove the ?w=1486 and it will become nice and sharp. The image size on the end, in this case 1486, will change depending on the size of the photo I upload.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

When you right-click on an image to open it in a new tab or window, the image is resized based on the screen resolution detected by the user’s browser. It’s a technique implemented by all modern browsers and cannot be overridden.

If you want to force the image to open in its native resolution with a single click you can do so by adding a link to the image itself. Here are the instructions:

When viewing the image on the post it shows up resized already in poor quality. The only way to see it better is to open in a new tab, and remove the size part on the end of the url.

  • The images need to be resized so they can fit in the site’s main area. If you want your images to appear bigger and in higher resolution you need widen the main area by either removing the widgets sidebar or by selecting a theme with a wider main content are.
