Poor Quality of Video Uploads
-
With the new WP 2.5, the quality of uploaded video seems to be very, very poor. Are they doing something different in the uploading process that has resulted in this? It’s very noticeable!!
-
Is anyone else experiencing this? I mean, a great looking video turns out looking TERRIBLE after being uploaded and posted by WP 2.5!!!
-
What happens to your preexisting videos? I know that you weren’t impressed with the quality of WPvid at first, but that it had improved lately. Have the good pre-existing ones degraded now?
-
I have noticed a rotating error with some images (including avatars) that are hosted by WP.com, so I’m wondering if the issue might be server-related and temporary. Has the quality of the videos you uploaded improved or changed at all?

Hi Rain,
Luckily, my pre-existing videos haven’t been degraded. Just the one’s I’ve uploaded since WP 2.5 (and troubles with uploading, too). But the old ones are still fine.
-
Uploading problems continue. Uploading and terrible, terrible quality!! They HAVE switched to a new server. Without telling anyone. Vidavee is no longer the server for videos. New server is the source of the problems. New server won’t upload videos that are perfectly fine, same ones that did upload with vidavee. New server says something about unable to encode because it doesn’t have the proper “codex.” Also, WP fans, although your old videos are in your old posts, you no longer have access to them. If you try to use them from your media library, you just get a message that its an old video, now hosted by vidavee. That’s it. Ripped off!! Thanks, WordPress.

And in this case, the uploading problems have nothing to do with either the browser or the version of flash as tellyworth seems to suggest in his posted sticky.

Workaround: Why not get a YouTube account and then embed from YouTube? YouTube has upped their quality and some vids are quite good. Here’s an example:
-
At least three reasons. Many videos that I use are original and not available on YouTube. Secondly, if you have used YouTube over time, you are aware that suddenly some videos become unavailable. Then, you have a YouTube video on a post that just says “unavailable.” Third, why on earth should I have to resort to that when I have already paid a fair amount of money to WordPress for upload space???

Of course I was unaware you had paid for extra storage space.

disembedded,
What format are the video files that you have *successfully* uploaded and posted?
I have tried to upload and post videos in both the .wmv and .mov (medium to small sized files too) and have been unsuccessful everytime. If have tried with IE, Firefox, and Safari on Windows XP, the browser doesn’t matter. Sometimes, however, I can upload a video, but it never shows up in the gallery and I have no way of embedding.
I had to upload to my VodPod account. This sucks.

Hi konservo,
I’ve always uploaded mp4 or mov files. But as I said, that’s not working now. Very, very poor quality…and now they won’t upload at all. By the way, has anyone noticed that no support has come in to make a comment about this??? I’ve sent in to tech support, but will probably have to wait two days to hear anything from them, as with the last WP 2.5 problem I had. Yes, this sucks very big time!!

Still no luck uploading videos. Contacted tech support yesterday. No response at all…no reply…waiting…and waiting…and waiting….
