Poor Quality Videopress Images
-
I have Videopress. I changed the images of my uploaded videos to my desired frames, however the image quality is very poor. The videos are all HD, but the images are low res and have been stretched to fit the frame. Is there a way I can upload HQ HD images to use as the poster/player image? Or is there a way I can up the quality of the existing poster image? Thanks.

Hi there,
Unfortunately, the resolution cannot be changed or upload HD images, but you can choose to change the image of the poster image by selecting a section of the video that’s just a black screen.
You can do this by navigating to your individual video’s Edit Media screen (Media Library > click the title of the video of interest). Play a video, wait till you find a desirable frame, then click “Capture Thumbnail” button. The video will pause and display “uploading…”. Then it will display “Thumbnail saved”. Click the “OK” button and your thumbnail image (also known as a poster frame) is updated automatically.

I am a filmmaker and most of my website portfolio are videos. I purchased the Videopress upgrade so I could host my own videos, which is more professional, however the low quality images completely detract from the professional look as well as are counter-intuitive since the videos stream in full HD. It would likewise, be unprofessional to have multiple video players on my website all with black poster images. I don’t see how this is a viable solution at all. I also don’t see how it is impossible to have higher quality images for selected poster images when the default poster image does display in full quality. I also see know way to go back to the default poster image once you’ve changed it. Is there a way I can change my poster image to the default without re-uploading the video?
Lastly, I’ve been searching the forums for solutions to this issue and have found numerous other WordPress users who feel the same way I do about the poor image quality. This is something the WordPress staff needs to address ASAP, as the Videopress tool is an extra service, which I am paying for. If a user is paying for an extra service, that service should meet minimum requirements for standards. The image capture tool is poorly made. There needs to be an option for the user to upload their own image to be used as the poster image, as it is on other video hosting sites, such as YouTube and Vimeo.

Hi Briana,
I’m sorry about this, and I can understand your frustration. Unfortunately, I do not see an immediate solution for this that I can provide you. It would be best to contact VideoPress support directly and they might be able to figure something out:
I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
