Poor quality Videopress poster / thumbnail images
-
I have a self hosted blog which uses Videopress, while the videos themselves look great, the poster image / thumbnails look awful. This creates a really bad impression of the site, and for all I know may even put people off clicking on the videos.
I realise of course that I can change the thumbnail image, but that’s not the problem, it’s the poor image quality of any frame that I grab.
Is there a way of uploading a better quality jpg to be used as the poster frame, or of turning off the poster image altogether.
You can see the problem here:-

Forgot to mention that on http://www.greatphotograpytips.co.uk you need to click through to the actual video to see the poor quality poster image.

the poster image / thumbnails look awful
Hmmm … I’m using Firefox 5.0 and they look fine to me. When it comes to videopress support you need to contact Staff. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

You’re probably looking at the home page, the picture of me in the brown shirt is not actually a poster image.
Try this page:-
http://greatphotographytips.co.uk/?p=669I’ll contact the support team, but in any case I’d still like your opinion!

The little image in the sidebar with this > Top Shade, the professional’s portrait lighting secret looks okay to me. That being said I’m not familiar with the theme or how it is meant to display these posters and thumbnails. Sorry I can’t be more helpful. :(
-
No, I’m talking about the main image, nothing to do with the theme. You know, the great big one at the top of the screen on a black background and which has an arrow on it!
Oh, never mind!

I did view part of the video as as well and did not see any problem with it. Mind you the situation is that you are photographer and I am a painter so maybe you have a more discerning eye than I do.

The video itself plays fine and the quality is good, the problem is the quality of the photo i.e the poster image, that sits there waiting for you to click on it.
So just let me make this clear:-
1. NOT the little thumbnail on the sidebar
2. NOT the video itself
2. NOT any of the 3 images in the header of the screenBUT the large image with an arrow on it with me and a model. That’s the one which is very poor quality (it’s called a ‘poster’ image), despite the actual video being 1280 * 720, so the resolution should be fine.

@Bernie
Thank you so much for your patience and explanation. I apologize if I have annoyed you by being slow of wit. I now comprehend what you mean. Yes, the image on the video that sits there waiting for us to click ie. the poster image is IMO poor quality. You will still have to copy and paste this explanation in a support ticket for Staff. Best wishes for a satisfactory ending. -
Sorry if I came across a bit ‘tetchy’ didn’t mean to. It was probably my fault for mentioning ‘thumbnails’ in the original post, which I shouldn’t have done.
-
This is happening to me as well. see the dots on the top and bottom: http://cl.ly/2I2P470d3E3v3V2C0M2p the video plays perfectly though!

@scoutbrand
You will have to contact Staff. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ Type “videopress issue” into the searchbox. After you use the searchbox at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form. -
HM, that’s rather odd. It looks like a transcoding error.
Is there any improvement if you re-upload the video?
