pop open a whole new window, when you click on gallery image

  I am trying to make it so when you click on an image in the gallery
  it pops open a whole new window.
  is this possible?

  it pops open a whole new window. But I still want the original page with the gallery to stay there, in thee other window.

  And upon clarification, the answer is no. You can not make a larger image open in a new (pop-up) window here on wp.com. You want something like lightbox? But that uses javascript which is forbidden here. At one point there was a “trick” using thickbox, until we realized that it worked only for logged in wp.com users.
