Pop up blocking?
-
When I first go to my WordPress.com site (or even in any new browser tab, on multiple devices – desktop, iPhone, iPad) I get this Google/Vodaphone pop up. Why? I’d expect it was me except I get it on multiple devices.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com has a new advertising partner and it seems they serve rather scammy ads as ‘you won a iPhone 16’, ‘you are choosen to receive a free …’, … You can’t do much about it. you just have to wait untill wordpress;com bans that kind of scam.
-
Wow, that sucks. I assumed it was something hacked, not something WordPress embraced willingly. Yikes. Thanks for the info.

Hi @ukmaryanne,
We’ve identified and resolved an issue that was causing unexpected redirects or ad behavior on some sites, even for users with a No Ads upgrade. This may also have triggered security software alerts or caused your site to be flagged temporarily.
The issue should now be fully resolved. If you’re still experiencing any unusual behavior, please let us know — we’ll be glad to continue investigating.
Let us know how things look on your end.

Nope. There is a little banner that appears at the top that goes by quickly then it redirects to the ad. This is from just now.

I am using Firefox.

Hi!
Thanks for the update. For those still experiencing the redirect issue, if your site has ads active, could you please try the following to turn off ads?
You can go to Tools → Monetize (or Jetpack → _Monetize if using WP Admin), click on the “Ads” tab, and then “Settings” to turn off ads. After that, please activate it again and clear your browser cache: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/.This should reset the ads settings and load an updated version of the site.
Please let me know how it goes, and if the issue persists, we can investigate this further.

Staff-I’ll repeat here what I’ve said elsewhere: the vast majority of folks posting about this are owners of free WordPress.com websites. Free sites don’t have access to the dashboard mentioned in your reply and thus they don’t have any control over the ads displayed on their free websites. This is an issue that WordPress.com needs to address with the new ad provider.
-
I do see the dashboard, possibly because I do pay a bit (blogging since 2009 so needed more storage :) ) and followed the steps and it’s still happening. My guess would be that Firefox is not high on the list of browsers when it comes to solving these sorts of issues. If people using Chrome or Safari had it happen it would get solved in a day :D But also, clearly this is a scam so why is WP partnering with them?
-
@ukmaryanne This isn’t a browser issue and it is happening to users of other browsers. I can’t see it any other as they’re in bed with a very poor quality ad provider and can’t do anything about it, hence why we’re a week since complaints started coming in and nothing’s been done.

I’ve just had another warning/blocked site message while logged in. Still the same vodafone scam but the site name now says shield nest . cfd

Hi there,
I appreciate your patience while we reviewed this on our end! Our new ads partner has implemented a fix that should take care of the scam-type ads. Please let us know if you continue to see them.
Thanks,
-
I feel like this has worked since I have not seen any of these ads for a few days now. Thanks for addressing it.

Hi @ukmaryanne,
