Pop-up notifications not loading

When logged in to WordPress, the orange notification button is lit up, I press it, and it never loads. The little wheel just goes round and round.
I’ve restarted my browser (Chrome, up-to-date), tried it on IE (up-to-date), and I’ve restarted my computer.
I can still access my notifications via W > Notifications, but the orange panel is annoying me and has just suddenly stopped working.
Help!

This is the only workaround I have managed to find. For the mean time it allows you to view your notifications and clear them from the list, but the drop down from the speech bubble and the admin bar are still not working :(

Yes that’s what I’m doing in the meantime. The orange button just wants to be pressed though :(

Gaah! I did a pingback to a previous post, pressed the orange button (because it’s a habit even though it hasn’t worked for like, a day), and now it’s magically working again.
Perhaps it was on vacation? I don’t know.
