Pop up spam on mobile
-
Hi – I am having a problem with my readers getting a popup spam message over 50% the visit a page on my website.
URL: http://www.hockomocksports.com.
This is only happening on mobile. I have heard from dozens of readers with similar screen shots. You head to a page and suddenly there is a re-direct and you get a google pop up – either about an iPhone or winning a Walmart gift card.
Based on a scan of the forums, this happened to others earlier this year:

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem like there was a solution except for WordPress to suspend Ads at some point.
This is happening in Chrome and Safari, so the idea that its adware in the browser seems incorrect.
I was curious if there was a fix for this? I have WP support combing my site but they are having trouble.

@ryanlanigan sorry to hear that! Can you get a few screenshots and upload them to Cloudup or a similar service, then link them here? We’ll see if we can get to the bottom of this for you.

@Supernovia – Thanks for getting back to me.
Here is a link to four screen shots of it happening.
The website begins to load – you can see it in the background. And then it quickly redirects and these pop ups will load and there is no way to exit them.
Thanks!

@ryanlanigan – are you running wordads on the site currently or did you disable them after these popups?
Are these possibly coming from some other network?
-
@supernovia – thanks for sharing. As far as I know, we aren’t running wordads – the only ad service we use is Insticator but we’ve been using that for over a year. This problem just started to occur this month.
-
@ryanlanigan we aren’t putting any ad code on the site then. But I’m wondering if your current ad service is having trouble.

@supernovia – Good and bad news. Good news is that it does appear it was Insticator, I disabled the plugin and it seemed to fix the problem. Bad news is now I had to work with them to figure it out! I am surprised something that we’ve had for a year would suddenly start something like that. Thanks for your help.

Ah, thank you for the follow up. We’ve been pretty vigilant about keeping those kinds of ads out of our network, and it was tricky to suss out the cause of these. Best wishes to you and the folks over at Insticator!
