Pop-Up. The Security Certificate of This Website Is Not Valid, Red Flag?

  • Unknown's avatar

I posted my blogs on many online forums, and a large number are getting this message which pops-up. This message appears in all my links to the Blogs I posted. Now I See why On forums states 75 clicked, however on my Blog states only 4 views for that post. I’ve lost over 2000 views since I first started posting owing to this issue, not counting the other stuff when editing, what a mess.

    Using windows, etc. google, etc.

    canadaatwarblog.wordpress.com.

Click on any of my links this pop-up Alert page appears:

The Security Certificate of this website is not valid, we recommended you immediately close this Web page, and leave the site.

Click green to close this Web page.
Click on Red to continue on this website, (Not Recommended).

How can this be fixed: The Security Certificate of this website is not valid?

  • Hi Joseph,
I just checked your site and did not find any such issue. Most of the links I clicked worked fine. I am from India.
Could you please try accessing your site from another browser or another machine.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, thank U kindly for your reply, as for India’s High Technology, etc, is certainly not in the dark ages, top guns. In Canada I’m using my personal LT all is good when I click on any link. I’m in a research Library using their Computers go online, google any website I posted, and it gives the red fag and that MSG pop ups, also tried on few friends computers and gave same red flag message, I received PMs from some website forums members, Mods, of the Red Flag pop-ups, “The Security Certificate of this website is not valid,” asking if I was trying to infect their website. I Stated too them using wordpress.com, that Certificate is certainly valid.

    THK U FR YR TME.

    Joseph.

  • Hi Joseph,
Looks mostly like the internet service provider or the machines at the research facility are causing the issue. If I were you, I would check with the system admins in the facility first.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for the headsup, could be on older systems, they are using windows 7 at the Archives Library. However doesn’t explain why others are getting the Pop up, red fag, first warning asking authorisation before preceding to my Blogs link, like stated some get the red flag MSG others don’t. I’ll ask others with computers to see.

THK U FR YR TME, It’s appreciated.

    Joseph.

WordPress.COM is switching to https for standard blogs (abc.wordpress.com) – and that has produced some side effects – but they seem to have calmed down

Just in case I have also flagged this for staff attention

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok I just used 4 different Laptops all connected by the same WiFi, at the archives Library; canadaatwarblog.wordpress.com, my blog appears however at the bottom a small, topped yellow stripe MSG on all 4: “Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate. Then on the right you have a small box Click to Show content. On their Computers I get the Red Flag etc that pops up.

Thanks for passing this on, it’s greatly appreciated.

THK U FR YR TME “auxclass”

    you be welcome

the extra info should help the staff a bit

    Hi Joseph,
for me it looks like a plg-in that’s called WOT (Web of trust). This Plug-In works with Firefox and with IE. It kicks out every(!) Site, that contains words like Psychotherapy, Healing, War, the german word “Heilpraktiker” (which is a non medical graduate), musictherapist and so on. I don’t know who is “behind the scenes” but it’s funny – 1 bad comment is more worth than 20 good :-). That might not help you to get more clicks, but it might help to understand what could be wrong. If anybody has kicked off WOT, that red screen will not disappear.

    Hey there,

It does sound like maybe there’s a conflict with a security plugin, like WOT. Can you check if these visitors have any plugins installed?

Can you give me the content of the warnings you’re getting from Internet Explorer? It sounds like we’ve got some mixed media content warnings with the switch to https. We can get that fixed up as soon as i can identify what types of embeds are causing it. :)

Hi thank U, no Plugins installed.
“War, etc.,” word recognition might hold water, then one considers I’m on line on numerous War websites, Forums, links on regular Google and Chrome, PDF’s, websites all using war, etc, etc and never get red flags Alerts.

Alert: The Security Certificate of this website is not valid, we recommended you immediately close this Web page, and leave the site.

Click on green to close this Web page.
Click on Red to continue on this website, (Not Recommended).

On my laptop once I click on my blog, the small pop-up at the bottom of page, internet Explore warring on the security certificate has blocked content, Click on Show Content: Many, even myself would not take the chance, the “Websites Security Certificate,” Internet Explore, has issue with it and gives an Alert, red flag, when clicked on Google, MSN, etc, etc,. search scrolls.

It not about incising my numbers of views, as more then getting an accurate or as close as possible count, and when I have now tried few times incognito and see when the Alerts go Off even if I proceed Internet Explore Blocks some of the content etc, as the Alert states. The page is messed up, the words show with the back picture only, the white backing page is missing, Etc., etc. and on my states it shows I have not viewed that post or linked from that website or other sites I posted links to my blog.

Using a friends pc, different IP address internet service provider, that wouldn’t recognise me once I logged on one of the links I posted on forums, I click get the Red Alert on security certificate, click on red proceeded to the Post, was on that page for 10 minutes clicked on few posters, as other pages, later when I went on CAWB.wordpress.com, Statistics showed no mentioned the 4 links were viewed, or the posters, large pictures I viewed or from the websites forums I viewed those links incognito!

THK U FR YR TME, happy holidays.

    SVP No Rush.

    Joseph.

Do you have an antivirus software installed? Does it integrate with your browser?

I had a coworkers visit your site in Internet Explorer and he did not see any warnings. And he’s running the McAfee Secure Browsing plugin.

In general, if you’re logged into your WordPress.com account we will not count your visits to your site. If you’re logged out, we will. However, our stats counting is not in real time. So you won’t necessarily see a hit on your site immediately after visiting it in a private browsing window.

Hi Thank U Shawna for taking the time it’s greatly appreciated, note I’m all thumbs when it comes to this stuff. My antivirus software plugin, I’m using Windows Vista, and AVG 2015, “Does it integrate with your browser? I’m assuming it does? I turned off my AVG antivirus logged in and get the same small popup at the bottom of the page when I click on any google, msn, search link CAWB.WP.com. The MSG: “Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate.” Box to click [Show content]

The rest I know, count not in real time, etc., when I log into CAWB.WP. my views etc. don’t count. I visited the website logged out, got the bigger Red flag Alert, the page had certain stuff blocked, missing, and that goes for all the pages when I use library archives computers and WiFi. On my LP using just their WiFi, as many other locations wifi, all I get is the small popup warning, I have to click on, “show content,” to proceed on page.

I went on line About certificate errors
    Windows 7Windows Vista Windows Vista
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Vista

Here are answers to some common questions about certificate errors.
    Show all

    Why do certificate errors occur?
Certificate errors occur when there’s a problem with a certificate or a web server’s use of the certificate. A website’s certificate identifies the web server and it enables Internet Explorer to establish a secure connection with the site. Internet Explorer can help keep your information more secure by warning you about certificate errors.

How do I know there is a certificate error?
Usually, a blocking page will appear that will warn you about the problem with the certificate. If you choose to ignore the error and continue, the Address bar will turn red and the message Certificate Error will appear in the Security Status bar (next to the Address bar).

Can I go to a website that has a certificate warning?
Yes. While this isn’t recommended, you can click Continue to this website (not recommended) on the certificate error blocking page to go to the website. If you ignore the warning page and go to a website that has presented a certificate containing an error, Internet Explorer will remember the certificate while you have your browser open. You can return to the site without receiving another warning for that certificate until Internet Explorer is restarted. However, you will still see the red Address bar and the message Certificate Error in the Security Status bar.

Can I turn off certificate checking?
No, you can’t turn off certificate checking in Internet Explorer. If you’re receiving certificate errors, it means the website you’re visiting is having certificate problems and it doesn’t indicate a problem with Internet Explorer.

I’m getting errors on websites I always visit. What should I do?
If you encounter a certificate error at a website you’ve visited before without errors, it’s possible the website is not configured correctly. Try retyping the address you’re using. For example, if you’re typing the address as https://example.com, try changing it to https://www.example.com.
It’s also possible that the website’s certificate has expired and the owner or operator needs to contact the certification authority to renew the certificate to continue using it. This is a website-related problem, and can’t be corrected in Internet Explorer. If you’re getting errors on a website you’ve visited successfully, contact the website to report the problem.

Is it ever safe to ignore a certificate warning and continue to a website?
A website’s certificate provides identification of the web server. If the certificate has an error, it might indicate that your connection has been intercepted or that the web server is misrepresenting its identity. If you’re absolutely positive of the identity of the website, you know that your connection has not been compromised, and you understand the risks, you can choose to go to the website. However, we recommend that you don’t ignore a certificate warning.

Thanks for the follow up! Sorry for the delay over the holiday weekend. :)

Could you take a screenshot of your screen when you see these errors? I’d like to see your entire browser screen including the address bar and the error pop up. Here’s some tips on taking a screenshot:

    Take a Screenshot

You can upload that image straight to your Media Library and I’ll be able to take a look.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, THK U FR YR reply, no need for sorry etc, when time permits is fine by me, your taking the time in helping me out, like stated no rush.

Ok using my laptop was easy; wordpress.com or canadaatwarblog.com this is msg I get.

Now how do I insert pictures on this MSG board? Aaaaa… my WP Media Library, i’ll insert both from my LP.

The Red Flag MSG etc I get when using other computers, per say at the Library Archives, I’ll need my stick, etc. this will be in French.

    THK U FR YR TME.

    Hi Joseph. :)

Thanks for those! I’m not seeing anything specific enough yet and I still haven’t been able to trigger the errors on my end. Could you please open the console in Internet Explorer when you see this error message? You can do this by pressing the F12 function key. (You may need to press the “fn” key at the same time.)

A screenshot of anything red in there would be really helpful.

Thanks for your patience with this!

  • Unknown's avatar

This is in red on the top address bar whem using windows 7, or even when click on, wordpress.com using other computers, at the Library Archives, note on my LP using Windows Vista Pre…only get the small yellow strip pop-up as seen in both pictures in my Picture Library on WP:

This is also in red when I use windows7.

I`ll get back with more (screen shots have some issues transfering to my stick) after the holidays, so no rush.

Happy and safe New Year to U, and loved ones.

C.U. and thanks for all your help.

The console should be able to tell me what exactly is throwing that error in the first place. Just let me know whenever you’re able to upload those image. No rush at all.

From what I can tell, this is just a mixed media content error, which means we have to add or remove some s’s on our end, but isn’t a real security concern for you. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, check my Media Picture with that F12 U asked was easy, I just inserted, that Pic is from my LP. The Library where I get different Red Flag etc, big issue with their computers, paint is hidden and no search bar etc, only opens paint program if I google and download a picture [open with], save then I use stick transfer to my computer, all this is in French etc., after holidays the person that’ll help will be back.

SVP I belive U wanted me to open those + once I have the F12 page?

    C.U.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for that screenshot! It almost exactly what I need. Sorry that I wasn’t specific enough, that’s my fault. If you can open that window again, and click over to the “Console” tab, that would be the information I need. I’ve highlighted that tab here:

I know getting these screenshots can be a pain. Thank you so much for bearing with me through this. :)
