Pop up when accessing blog via cell phone

    My husband and another person, from a different state, told me that when they tried to access my wordpress.com site from their phones, they had a pop-up show up instead. The pop-up said something about them claiming a prize they had won. The pop-up did not show up when accessed through their computers. What is going on? How do we deal with this issue?

    Please post this specific info here:
    (a) Exactly what kind of device he is using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
    (b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) he is using by having him check here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/

    The phones receiving the pop-up screens are all iPhones, so far. There are 4 people who have gotten the pop-ups now. My husband and at least one friend are using the Safari browser.

    Hi there,

    This is likely caused by adware running in the Safari browser. Google “iOS pop ups” and you’ll find many reports of this happening on a variety of websites, not just WordPress.com. Ads like this have been showing up on iOS since at least 2014 from what I can find, but it appears to be on the increase in the past few weeks.

    Set your device to airplane mode and force-quit Safari. Restart Safari and completely clear the browser cache and history. Then disable airplane mode. Based on the articles I could find about this issue, that should stop the pop-ups from appearing.
