pop-ups on mobile site

    Hi,

    This is a question for WordPress, but apparently providing actual customer support gets in the way of making a profit and we can’t have that. Perhaps other users have also encountered this issue and are willing to unpaid labour for WP.

    For the past few weeks, I have noticed that every time I open my own blog site on my device (iPad Pro), some kind of pop-up appears which is clearly a scam. (It’s a bit different every time.) The only way to get rid of it is to tap ok and then immediately close the window. I don’t see this on my laptop, but I am using an adblocker there which does not work on iPad, so it may also be a problem for the web platform.

    I know that this is not some scam coming from the blog itself, since it is my own and I have made no modifications to code, much less any scam/adware/pop-up. Thus I can only conclude that it is coming from or through WordPress, or possibly the producer of the theme I’m using. If it’s the latter, shame on WordPress for not vetting properly; please correct this. If it’s the former, I am shocked that a major provider cares so little about its users’ security; please correct this.

    Either way, it seems like a major security issue and will force me to look for a different blog host if it persists. While WP may not miss me personally, I can only assume that it may affect other, probably higher value users as well.

    So WP people, please let me know how you plan to address this. Allowing scammers to hijack my site and providing zero information about how to deal with it is not cool and certainly not in line with what is otherwise a pretty useful and trouble free service.

    Please also see https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/spam-pop-up?replies=10#post-2967980. I am also complaining about the same problem and I believe it is related to the WP.com platform. WP tech team needs to dig deeper and help with a solution.
