Portfolio and welcome sections trouble
-
Hello there,
I just bought and activated the minimum theme. I love it, but it seems every time I put a widget in the portfolio or welcome sections, my main blog disappears. Can you help?
Thanks,
Dawn

Hi Dawn,
When I visit your site, I see that you have a few widgets activated on your homepage. Are you still having trouble with this?
If so, can you let me know which specific widgets are giving you trouble? Taking a screenshot and uploading it to your Media Library will help us to see how things look on your end:

Hello again,
Thank you so much for the reply. I’ll try and explain best I can what the trouble is.
When I bought the theme, I thought that I could simply lay out the home page as the blog roll and, beneath that, a portfolio widget. Also a welcome line above the blog roll. But it seems once I add a widget (portfolio or welcome) to the blog roll page, the blog disappears.
So I figured I needed to put the portfolio, the welcome and a feature widget on the home page, and have my blog roll on a separate page. In this instance, I named my blog roll “notebook”. I was happy enough with how it looked on my laptop, but then I noticed on my phone that when I click on the notebook button in the menu, it looks like a comments page.
Basically, I would like to have a portfolio and welcome section on the home page. If it’s not possible to have my blog roll (with categories sidebar, etc) there too, then I’m happy to have it on a separate page. I’m just not sure how best to do this as I’, not too well versed in this theme.
Thank you for your help, much appreciated.
Dawn

Hi Dawn,
Okay, it sounds like you want both your blog posts to appear on your front page, as well as the welcome message and portfolio. If you’d like to do this, you may want to play with adding the Featured Posts widget to your footer. Otherwise, your best bet would be to leave the Notebook page as is.

Yes, though that doesn’t solve the problem of layout. How can I have my blogroll, categories and contents drop-down menus to the left, the welcome note above that and the portfolio below it? Is that even possible to just have it all on one page? I’d ideally like it all to be on one obvious, clearly laid-out page. Why can’t my blog roll just go in the features section area (geographically)?
If it isn’t possible, I’m happy to leave the front page as it is as a landing page. But on phone and seemingly iPad, the “home” page simply looks like the blog roll and the “notebook” page just looks like a comments page.
I would like a simple, intuitively laid-out blog page.

Actually, have just realised I can link posts (by most recent) in the featured section. Although not sure if it’s clear that these are simply the most recent, and not everything. Why can’t my drop-down menu widgets go down the side here?

If you have the portfolio widget activated on Minimum, the sidebar is automatically removed from the front page. You can see an example of this on the Minimum demo page:
http://minimumdemo.wordpress.com/If you put your blogroll below the Featured Posts Widget that you have in the Featured area of your Appearance -> Widgets page, the blogroll will display below your featured posts.
Keep in mind that you have the mobile theme, Minileven, activated on your site. When someone visits your site on an iPhone, they will see the Minileven theme instead of Minimum unless they choose to view the full site.

Okay, I have reset “enable mobile theme” to “no”.
I understand regarding the portfolio activation, thank you :)
How do I put my blogroll below the featured posts widget? I have a selection there right now using the “genesis featured posts” widget. I have five showing (most recent) from “all categories”. Although it doesn’t have an “older posts” arrow beneath it.

You’ll need to add links to your blogroll via your Dashboard -> Links page before activating the Links Widget. After you do that, you should be able to drag and drop the Links Widget just below the Featured Posts Widget.
Regarding your Featured Posts Widget, it looks like you two separate Featured Posts Widgets activated: one in the Featured area, and the other in Portfolio. Are you looking for the “Older Posts” arrow to appear below the Featured area or in the Portfolio area?
-
Okay I’ll look into that links advice! Thanks. I was looking for the “older posts” arrow to appear possibly below the top vertical-drop of recent featured posts.
