Portfolio as Front Page
-
I’m currently testing the I SPIED theme here on WordPress.com for possible deployment on a self-hosted site. In particular, I want to use the Portfolio (Projects) function to display a number of writing samples as the top page of my website. In the I SPIED theme, how do I go about setting my portfolio as the top page? The Test Blog I am using his here.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. Testing on WordPress.com won’t help you with a self-hosted site using WordPress.org as the two platforms are completely separate and different and even the .com and .org versions of the theme don’t work the same. I can give you the instructions to do this on WordPress.com, but be aware the same instructions won’t necessarily work on a self-hosted site.
On WordPress.com, first create a static page for your portfolio projects. Either assign the page the portfolio page template, leaving the content area blank, or use the regular page template and insert the portfolio shortcode on that page. The portfolio page template is the better option, though the shortcode allows more customization options. See your theme’s support doc for more information: https://wordpress.com/themes/espied/
Then you publish that page, and set it as your front page under Settings ->Reading in your dashboard. Instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
