portfolio doesn‘t work

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
    I desperatly need your help. I think I‘ve ruined my website because of a mistake I did at beginning. Now I am not able to have my portfolio as the start page. I accidentily named the page portfolio, then, after I realized my fault, deleted the page and created a new one and added it to be the portfolio page. Now the adress is not /portfolio but /portfolio-2 and the start screen doesn‘t display the portfolio at all. What can I do?
    Thanks in advance!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

    Your site is set to display the latest posts on the front page, while the Sketch demo has a static front page with the Portfolio Page Template assigned. To display a static page instead of the latest posts on the front page, see the Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) support page for instructions.

    For information on optional page templates, see the Template section of the Page Attributes support page.

    The Portfolio Page Template section of the Sketch theme guide provides instructions on how to select the Portfolio Page Template from among the optional page templates for the static front page, or for any other page with the Sketch theme applied.

    Now the adress is not /portfolio but /portfolio-2 and the start screen doesn‘t display the portfolio at all. What can I do?

    Here’s your portfolio page: https://larsbasinski.wordpress.com/portfolio/. The page https://larsbasinski.wordpress.com/portfolio-2/ is an unrelated static page. You may safely delete it, or you could change it’s status to draft if you think you might want to use it in the future.

  • musicdoc1 – thanks for explaining things so well here.

    elshoshin – One thing to remember is that it’s not possible to have a page called “portfolio” – if you give a page that slug, you wouldn’t be seeing it when you visit https://larsbasinski.wordpress.com/portfolio/ – as that URL is reserved for your site’s automatically generated portfolio archive page.

    Setting your front page to a static page (in Customizer > Homepage Settings) and then applying the Portfolio Page template to it in the page editor is the way to get your site looking more like the Sketch demo.

    Please let us know if you get stuck at any step and we’ll be glad to help.

    @kathrynwp,

    You’re welcome. : )
    I should have explained that the portfolio was automatically generated. Thanks for adding that info.
