Portfolio Homepage

  Hi there,

  How do you build a homepage of thumbnails that each open to their own respective page of photographs and text?

  I’m really struggling to figure it out!

  An example is a site like this one: http://theselby.com

  I’m using the illustratr theme.

  Hi there. To have a portfolio homepage, first go to Settings ->Writing and make sure you have the portfolio content enabled. Then go to Portfolio ->Add Project and create and publish the projects you want to display. Make sure that each project has a featured image enabled.

  Next, you create a page and assign it the Portfolio Page Template and set that as your home page. Also create another page (leaving it blank) that you can assign for your posts.

  Is it possible to set up a Portfolio Page Template in Pictorico theme or is it only available in Illustratr?

  I’ve never used Pictorio, so I don’t know, but the support doc on portfolios only lists Espied, Illustratr and Sketch. That does not necessarily mean no other theme has it.

  You can check yourself for your theme: Go to any page and edit it or create a new page. Look for the Page Attribute module (if you don’t see it, click on Screen Options at the top and make sure that module is selected). There should be a drop-down menu for page templates in that module. If the portfolio page template is not listed there, then it’s not available for Pictorio.

  You’d still be able to use the porfolio shortcode, though. It works on every theme and, while it might not look quite as good as the page template, it gets the job done and is fairly customisable: http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/portfolio-shortcode/

  Just put the shortcode on a new page, and once published that page will display your projects according to how you customise the shortcode.

  Hi!

  I apologize for hijacking this thread but since I’ve used Illustatr theme I thought this might be a good place for my question.

  I have previously used Illustratr theme and have set the homepage to portfolio successfully. The theme is beautiful.

  But I have changed to other themes and now, while the portfolio page itself still works, the static homepage that I have set to the Portfolio doesn’t work anymore. All it shows is a blank page. Setting it back to Illustratr theme makes it work. So there shouldn’t be anything wrong with the settings itself, right?

  Appreciate any insights into this rare issue.

  ^BTW, I have tested on several themes, including Sketch which definitely has the Portfolio function. But even on Sketch, it came up blank.
