Portfolio page links

  I’ve created a blog using the Illustratr theme. I’ve created four portfolios, which I then added to a Site Page which is my main home page for the blog. My goal is this: I want the main page to show the feature image for each of the four portfolios. When I click on the feature image, you are taken to the portfolio page with all included images. (so far this has gone well with no problems). Here’s my snag – when I get to the portfolio page, I want to be able to link each image to an individual blog post.

  I’ve seen other people trying to do the same and haven’t found a good answer yet.

  My blog is designed to provide information about plants in a local park. So on the main page I want to see the various categories of plants (trees, shrubs, etc.). Then when I click on the category, I want to see all of the plants which have been identified in the park in that category (i.e. beech, oak, pine, etc.). Then I want to be able to click on the specific tree to get to an individual blog post that provides details about the specific plant (which is where I am now stuck).

  Has anyone come up with a way to work this? I know I could use galleries instead of portfolios, but the portfolios just look so nice :)

  But you are using galleries. The portfolio page template on the front page displays the portfolio, but each project contains a gallery images. So essentially your question boils down to the following: Can images in a gallery be linked to posts, pages, or elsewhere? It’s a question that members have been asking for as long as I’ve been using WordPress.com (10 years), and as far as I know the answer is still a qualified no. Links can’t be added to the images themselves, but you may add a link to the image captions.
