Portfolio page show feature image off center

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

    I’m not a expert of WP by any mean. However, I have no idea if it is meant to be like that or something isn’t not right. But as you can see in the picture in the link below, feature images are always off center something like 40 – 50 px (left image with guides) when loaded in the portfolio page. To get them to center I have to crop all of them inside WP(right image)which is a bit of a pain in the neck, considering that the images are the size required.

    I have already tried to load a cropped image to start with but then it would show a black bar at the bottom.

    is there a more efficient work around or a setting that i’m not aware somewhere?

    Thank you

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy –

    Could you send a link to the post or page where that screen shot came from? Happy to take a closer look at things.

    Hi thanks for replying. The site isn’t live yet it will be in a couple of days hopefully. The theme I’m using is Lodestar if that helps to test it out. In any case, I will post the link here when is accessible. Thank you very much!

  • As staff we can still see the project even if it isn’t live yet. This allows us to help folks while they’re still building things.

    Here the main page: https://herveamami.wordpress.com/

    portfolio page: https://herveamami.wordpress.com/projects/

    thank you for looking into it. Obviously with an image is not noticeable, but with graphic is pretty obvious. All the feature images there are 1200×628 as stated on WordPress info page.

    Just to check, whereabouts was that suggestion? The theme you’re using (Lodestar) suggests ensuring that your featured images are at least 2000×1200 pixels – it’s at the bottom of the theme information:

    Hi, thank you for looking into it. I did change the resolution, I have no idea where I got my size info from, however the problem is still there. I attached the screenshots.

    When the project page is loading in the static front page the white ‘plus’ image is center (the green ‘v’ is off centre). When I load the projects page individually is goes off centre (the green ‘v’ centre). It is odd.

    thank you again

  • Hello there,

    When I load the site, I can’t see anything off centre or out of proportion there.

    What browser are you using exactly? Also, to check, are you zoomed in on the browser. (Probably not, but it’s one of the easiest things to check).

    Hi aleone89, thanks for looking into it, what you said its actually correct but I don’t think you have read to the end of it. if you load the project page from the menu, you will see. The screenshot are there too. The images on the landing page aren’t cropped anymore for testing so they look center now but when you load the above page you will see the same off center issue of the logos, of at least 30-40 px.

    To answer your question about the browser, I’m using chrome for this test.

    thank you

  • Ah, I think I see what you’re saying, but I just want to double check this. When I look at https://herveamami.wordpress.com/projects/ – I see the bottom of the portfolio tile seems to be shaved off at the bottom (which is not happening on https://herveamami.wordpress.com/). Is that what you’re referring to?

  • Unknown's avatar

    yes exactly that. Basically I can crop each image 30-40 px (as i did before posting this question) and it will centre in the ‘/project’ page. But then, in landing page, the same page ‘/project’ will load the images off centre like the screenshot you have posted. Simply put, i can not have the ‘/project’ page feature image to look centre in both instances.

    thank you

  • Hey there,

    Thank you for that clarification.

    I’ve taken a look at this and it looks like this is a trait of the theme design as the tiles on the homepage are different to that of the project page.

    This can be overwritten with CSS:

    .portfolio-projects article {
        margin: 0 10px 20px;
        min-height: 352px;
    }

    But in order to apply this, the site would need to be on the premium plan.

    Other than CSS, there are other features available with the plan: https://wordpress.com/pricing/ – it may be the case that this is needed to do what you wish to do.

    I hope this information is useful.
