I would like to list my portfolio projects with suitable graphics / images
on the first page below my Header picture.
I can find my first project somewhere but in a round-about way.
I cannot delete navigation tabs such as Image, Video below my header picture. I just want two button there, e. g. ABOUT.

I would like to list my portfolio projects with suitable graphics / images
on the first page below my Header picture.Just add a suitable featured image to each portfolio project, and use a static front page assigned to the Portfolio Page Template. I believe you’ve already got the correct page template assigned to a static front page. From the Illustratr theme guide:
Featured Images for projects are 800 wide by unlimited high.
I cannot delete navigation tabs such as Image, Video below my header picture. I just want two button there, e. g. ABOUT.
What happens when you attempt to delete the unwanted menu items?

Agree with musicdoc1, and there’s more info at her link.. also think about how you upload your images to your projects; so they display how you want ie: cropping / editing them before uploading…
Excerpt from Illustratr
“Portfolio Page Template
This template will display your portfolio and allow you to set your portfolio as your site’s home page. When you first activate Illustratr, your posts will display in a traditional blog format. If you would like to show your portfolio projects on the front page of your site (like Illustratr‘s demo site), just follow these instructions:
Create or edit a page, and assign it to the “Portfolio Page Template” from the “Page Attributes” module.
Go to Settings → Reading and set “Front page displays” to “A static page.”
Select your portfolio page as the “Front page,” and then choose another page as the “Posts page,” (to display your blog posts).
By default, page title and content will appear. You can hide them if you prefer by going to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options and check “Hide title and content on Portfolio Page Template” option.Your ‘custom menu’ or ‘links’ menu is just a matter of finding which way you created it (should be one or the other..)

@ afreestyler,
Your ‘custom menu’ or ‘links’ menu is just a matter of finding which way you created it (should be one or the other..)
Not sure what you mean by this. There is no question that the site https://niemolens.wordpress.com/ displays a custom menu in the header menu bar. The links to tag archives (Image, Video) and a portfolio project (PIZZA, the AV – Video) alone indicate that it is custom menu, but there is also the fact that the Ilustratr theme does not display a default header page menu as some themes do.
@ niemolens,
Since your menu is a custom menu it should be a simple matter to delete the unwanted items from the menu structure on the menus page. For each unwanted menu item do the following:
1. Click the arrow beside the item type to open the item
2. Click “Remove” to delete the item from the menu
3. Click the “Save menu” button. -
Hello afreestyler and musicdoc,
Thank you for your help with the detailed advice. I have started cleaning up, continuing later. Should I get stuck I will be back.
Regards,Thomas
