Portfolio page won't display portfolio projects

I’m totally new to WordPress, and I’m struggling to understand how to get my portfolio set up in the theme Sketch. I have a Portfolio page that’s set to display posts, but only seems to pull blog posts, nothing from the actual “portfolio” section where I’ve created projects. It did at one point, but I appear to have broken it again. :P Any advice (including better ways to create portfolios) would be greatly appreciated!!

Here’s your automatically generated portfolio page: https://megmerrydesign.wordpress.com/portfolio/. Its URL is just the site URL with “/portfolio” appended to the end of it.
To display the portfolio on the front page as it is on the Sketch demo, you’ll need to display a static page on the front page with the portfolio page template assigned to it. How to accomplish this is described in the Portfolio Page Template section of the Sketch theme guide.

Thank you, I figured out a way to make it work after posting this…not the correct way I don’t think, but something. :P I’ll have to keep experimenting!

Some themes, such as Sketch, include the optional and convenient portfolio page template, but the portfolio, or portions of the portfolio, may be displayed in any content type (page, post, project, testimonial, text widget) by inserting portfolio shortcode. See the Portfolio Shortcode support page.
