'portfolio' setting

Hi – I’m trying to use the Orvis template, and tried to follow your instructions to enable the ‘portfolio’ feature — in an attempt to make the website layout look at all like the previews (which it doesn’t). But in following your instructions, I cannot find a ‘portfolio’ setting under ‘writing’ or ‘general’ or any other tab (‘writing’ tab is where your instructions direct to go). Do free templates not have this setting? Thanks.

Hi there! From your wp-admin dash (https://cathryn2016.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) in Settings > Writing, I see Portfolio is enabled, so that part is handled. :)

If you want your site to use the Portfolio Page Template on the front page (like the demo), follow the directions under the “Portfolio Page Template” section (about halfway down the page) to set your front page: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/orvis/.

Then in your wp-admin dash, along the left side, you’ll see Portfolio listed (under Pages). Add Portfolio projects there so that your portfolio page has projects to display.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Enable Mobile Theme will and does disable your portfolio on mobile devices. which makes no sense…

  • The mobile theme is only recommended for older, non-responsive themes. It’s not theme-specific and overrides a theme’s own features.

Orvis is a newer, responsive theme, and adapts automatically to mobile devices of all sizes, so the mobile theme isn’t needed or recommended.
