Portfolio shortcode

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I am using the SNAPS theme and the portfolio shortcode (www.memoriesofpalestine.com). I would like to change this theme because it feels time to give the site a new look and feel. If I choose a new theme, I want it to be Gutenberg compatible and to support the portfolio custom type that I use today. Can somebody recommend me a theme that is both Gutenberg compatible and leverages the Jetpack portfolio shortcode / portfolio custom type? Thx, Frank

    Thx, I will try.

If anybody from the Jetpack team is following this: are there any plans to create a Gutenberg block type for the portfolio shortcode? Or is there a theme developer that has done so already?

    Thx,

    Frank

  • Hi Frank,

You’re posting in the support forums for sites hosted on WordPress.com. Jetpack support is at https://jetpack.com/contact-support/?rel=support or https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/

Support for the self-hosted version of the Snaps theme that you’re using on your site can be found at https://wordpress.org/support/theme/snaps/ – that theme is not made by us, and we’re only able to provide support for the WordPress.com version of that theme.

That said, most WordPress themes, including all the WordPress.com themes available through Jetpack, should work fine with the block editor – at worst a theme might not have styling supported for all available blocks, e.g. I’ve heard that the new Full Width block does not work well in themes that don’t themselves have any full width styling defined. But in such a case you should be able to add that styling yourself using custom CSS or even a child theme.

There are very few themes that are truly designed as Gutenberg-first at the moment, with the new Twenty Nineteen default theme being the most well-known. So you might want to check out that theme – you should be able to search for it at Appearance ->Themes in WP-Admin on your site, or via WordPress.com ->My Site ->Themes on a Jetpack-connected site.

You can find all the themes we have available that supports specific styling for portfolios here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/portfolio

There is a shortcode block built into the block editor, and if you use the portfolio shortcode in that block it will work exactly like if you had added it in the old visual editor. Most existing shortcodes from various plugins should still work if you use them inside the shortcode block.
