Portfolio theme – gallery options

Hi there,
I have just purchased the Portfolio theme with upgrades, I like the layout but I am struggling with the lack of gallery display options. I can only manage to get a really clunky looking gallery with a black background – which in no way suits the rest of my website – is there somewhere I can go to read through more gallery display options? (I have been searching for sometime and it appears I may need to upgrade to self hosted and purchase it as a plugin, this scares me however as there is a long list of con’s in doing this and I just don’t think I have the knowledge to pull that off.
Would appreciate any help / suggestions!

The Gallery Photo Carousel, the Gallery and Slideshow are all image viewers available to any WordPress.com site and we do not have any other options.
The point of purchasing a Premium theme is the ability to use it’s special features and I suggest that you check out the theme’s Showcase page and the Premium theme forum for Portfolio to see what’s available.
