Portfolio versus Pages
-
Pardon if this question has been asked already. I am wondering if someone can identify the key difference between using the Portfolio and the Pages? What exactly is it that sets them apart?
Looking at it briefly, I came out with the key assumption which suggest that there is no difference between Portfolio and Pages. I need to understand why WordPress would introduce this Portfolio feature for the dashboard.

The “principal” key is here:
Portfolio Themes
Although all WordPress.com themes will display your projects after they’ve been created, a few themes have been designed specifically with the Portfolio content type in mind. These themes will have specific styles for the project archives and portfolio shortcode, and may provide specially designed page templates to display your portfolio in other ways.
“Secondary” key:
You can enable a unique Portfolio content type to help organize your portfolio projects in a special section of your dashboard.
Portfolio content type, is the S key.
