Porting a WIX site into WordPress before posting it elsewhere
-
I have a need to convert a WIX site into WordPress format. Is there a simple tool where I can do the conversion (as best as possible) and then store in off-line so that I can ultimately port it elsewhere?

Hi there,
There is no Wix importer for the open source WordPress software, as Wix doesn’t offer any option to export one’s content from their platform.
But here on WordPress.com we do have a Wix importer – it essentially just scrapes the content on your Wix site and uses that to create new posts and pages on the WordPress.com site.
Once the content is imported to your WordPress.com site, you’ll be able to export it in a standard WordPress export file in the .xml format, which you can then import anywhere else that supports WordPress imports. However, note that file won’t contain any images on your site, just links to where they exist in the media library on your WordPress.com site, and the WordPress.com site would need to be online at the time you import that file somewhere else for the images to be migrated.
Keep in mind that free WordPress.com sites never expire, and never get removed due to inactivity, so if you just want a place to keep your content safe for now, you can just leave it on the WordPress.com site and set it to private :)
