Porting an existing themed website from my ownership to a new owner?

I currently have this web/blog site which is for a client which is actually my church. It has evolved and we are planning to have a few administrators accessing it – not just me. However, it is in my name and I have a few other personal sites under this username and password that I don’t want anyone else to have access to. My question is – Can I port this site over to another new location that is not linked to me? So a new location (same URL) and new username and password just for the church? This site is sitting with you and is one of your themes not downloaded code. I have also added CSS coding and a redirect to this site which I pay for. Can we do this? How should I proceed? Can you let me know asap? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy,

You can add other administrators by creating for them individual accounts—which is what we suggest anyhow to help keep straight who has access to what.

    We have instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/

You can add other administrators who can do virtually everything you can (except for renew the upgrades or big things like delete the site), as well as Editors (who can edit all of the content, but not change settings), Authors (who can write new posts and edit their own, but nothing else), and Contributors (can submit new posts for review to be published, but can’t publish or edit published posts themselves).

If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know. Cheers!

Hi kraftbj and thanks for your reply. It’s not what I need though. I know I can add administrators onto this existing site. But my question is can I change the ownership of this site? I do not want to be the owner of this site and would like to port it over to another individual. I have a few other sites attached to this username and password that I would like to keep and don’t want them to be associated with this site. Is it possible to take all the data this site has including the CSS and redirect I have paid for to another owner?

  • Ah, yes. You can transfer everything over via the My Blogs link in your site’s Dashboard. This link has step-by-step with screenshots.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-wordpress-com-user-or-account

Once you’ve done so, please do let me know. I’ll double-check the upgrades to make sure your client won’t run into any problems upgrading when the time comes.

    Cheers!

Ok I’ll try this probably in the next month or so. Scares me a bit. If it messes up is it all gone? It’s a theme.

    Hi there,

Don’t worry, nothing on the site will be changed when you transfer it to the new owner. :) If you prefer, we can help you transfer the blog and its upgrades. We just need you to confirm the address of the site and WordPress.com user you want it transferred to.

Please let us know if we can provide any further help with this. :)

Thank you for your reassurance. I will check into the new location and get back to you about the transfer after Christmas. A very Merry Christmas to you all!
