Porto Theme & WordPress 5.9

    Hello!

I am hoping someone is able to help me confirm whether or not my current theme, Porto, is compatible with WordPress 5.9 full site editing/block editor. I am having a hard time getting to their support team so I thought it worthwhile to ask here in the meantime.
My concerns lie in the fact that the theme currently uses third party plugins like WPEditor and Elementor instead of the core editor. I would prefer to switch, however, this doesn’t seem possible without recreating the site in a different theme. I’ve read elsewhere that WPBakery and Gutenberg are not compatible and that activating both can ‘break’ your site.

Does anyone have experience in attempting to transfer from the Porto theme and/or WP Bakery to the core block editor/Gutenberg plugin successfully? Or would it be recommended to recreate the site with one of the modern, full site editing themes first?

I’m also trying to confirm something I heard on a webinar (whether I misheard is the real question), that eventually we will need to have themes which support full site editing anyway. I recall hearing ‘not to rush’ to make this change, but that eventually, it will need to be done. Is this true?

    Thank you,
    Ashley

  • Hi Ashley, I can’t speak to the compatibility between all of those plugins and theme configurations.

I did find this from Porto, though:

And I found this as well from WPBakery:

Does WPBakery Page Builder work with Gutenberg?

Re: needing to eventually change to a Full Site Editor(FSE) theme, that probably will be the case. But it will likely be some time from now. And I am guessing that in the meantime, the core FSE will get better, and integration between it and other editors will improve. Maybe your theme will even be FSE compatible by then.

So for your situation, I’d focus on any specific changes you need to make, using Gutenberg where you can. I wouldn’t try to switch to FSE right away if what you’ve got is working well for the most part and if you can work in increments.

Let us know if you have more questions. Also, are you able to log in with the account that owns the site? If so, you’ll have direct support access here:

    Cheers!
