Positioning several images within a post (or page)

Is there a document about how to get several images inserted into a post positioned according to one’s desires. I’ve experimented with position (left, center … none), inserted blank lines. I’ve changed image sizes … but still, the images have a mind of their own and position themselves according to some secret method unbeknownst to me. Is there a document which will help? I have text intermingled with lots of images. (You can see examples of what I mean by multi-image posts at proustmatters.com>menu>Photo Stories)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What’s critical is of course knowing the maximum displayed image width for your theme and making sure your images are appropriately sized.

    See here please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#alignment

The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that’s centered without text on either side of it.

Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.

Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.

Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).

If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.

To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the Text (HTML) editor after each image/text pair:
    <div style="clear:both;"></div>

Time Thief!! I had not appreciated the full meaning of the alignment icons in the visual editor. Didn’t realize their wrapping implications with respect to images. And your HTML snippet fixed a problem with an overlapping image (that is, one image was overlapping a corner of another.) I’m not sure what you mean by “staggering”. … but thank you, thank you!

What I posted is what another volunteer (justpi) provided long ago and I am happy it resolved your issue.
