Possible Spam Bot or more!

Gang…I have noticed in my stats lately a particular ISP out of L.A. that seems to be digging for info on me…all the posts they have visited have had some sort of clue as to who I am and where I’m from. I did a little digging on this particular ISP and this is what I came up with:
    http://www.my-whiteboard.com/business/performance-systems-international-inc-is-stealing-your-data-doing-nothing-good.html
I have removed any data that I think may give any back ground but it is still unsettling to think that there’s more to this ISP. Anybody else noticing this lurker and if so…what do you know and is there any way to block that ISP range as mentioned in the whiteboard above?
There’s a security risk here and is there not much we can do besides be totally anonymous? Kind of a drag if that’s the case.

It may be just a splog or SEO generator script that is paying attention to a particular tag… one that you might be using repeatedly.

As far as i know there is know way for us(the blog users) to block a specific I.P address from visiting a site.

If your still concerned, you can contact support… but you have to wait till monday when they are available.

  • We do not blog IP addresses from visiting blogs because it can block legitimate users. If you want to change your privacy settings on the blog you can go to Settings->Privacy in the Dashboard and only allow users you choose to view the blog.

Frankly, that is a security risk that is inherent in blogging, no matter what platform it may be.

The article says the problem is someone trying to steal your data or “jam your e-commerce sites”. The jamming thing would be staff’s problem, and from the looks of the above they’re not worried. The stealing data issue is…well, you shouldn’t put identity theft type data in your blog anyway. Not even whether you use Visa or Mastercard. Because there are already armies of people looking for that kind of thing, bots or no bots.

Thanks Raincoaster…You are right about the inherent risk to reveal any personal interests in a blog. Revealing personal data would be just stupid. So who’s to blame about revealing even remote info such as the area I grew up if there are some crazy remote stalkers out there? No one but me. Lesson learned. But I guess I was hoping there could be some way to prove this ISP is doing nothing but spamming people through their blogs and I would think somehow it could be blocked.
