possible to change 'website.wordpress.com' to 'website.be'?
-
hello guy’s!
I was playing around with a free .wordpress.com site to show some friends what the possibility’s of WordPress are.
Now they love what I’ve done, and want to use that as their main website.
They already have a domain name (www.animatie4u.be)
I tried to export the animatie4u.wordpress.com template and pages, and load them into their wordpress account I made for their already existing domain.
Well,.. that doesn’t seemed to work!
turns out the theme I used wasn’t here, so I downloaded. but now I’ve got way less custom options, lots of my posts are all mixed up, and if I try to change anything, there are tons of error messages like this:Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at animatie4U.be.mysql. This could mean your host’s database server is down.
Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running? If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
Anyone with some Ideas?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, you’ll have fewer custom options on a Wp.com blog than a WP.org blog, because of the security restrictions here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
What is the actual URL of the new blog you are needing help with, and the old one you are importing from? We need the URLs starting with http.

I have made the http://animatie4u.wordpress.com blog,
but we would like it to be moved (like it is) to http://animatie4u.be -
Then you need to buy the domain mapping for that. http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-a-domain/

yes, but http://animatie4u.be already exists, they already bought it last year or so.
So the blog just has to be moved. -
maybe it’s possible to make the http://animatie4u.be URL just as a linkpage that automaticly redirects to http://animatie4u.wordpress.com?
In a way that the blog stays where it is but people get there through the animatie4u.be URL -
You don’t need to move the blog if you don’t want to. You can point a domain that you already own to your WordPress.com site. There is info in the link that @raincoaster gave above: http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-a-domain/#i-already-have-a-domain

Ok, first off all, thanks for the info above!
I redirected http://www.animatie4u.be to the animatie4u.wordpress.com and that works fine!
Before I did that, I tried to make the exact same website via the domain they had, but it turned out that the theme I used (Bueno) has way more options in the animatie4u.wordpress.com version, and I couldn’t get the new site look anything like the old one (with the same theme activated). Now the guy’s I’ve build the website for asked if I can add a webshop.
after looking around, I discovered that it isn’t possible to get add-ons on this kind of website? any ideas how to fix this?
Or will I have to build a new non name.wordpress.com website?
