Possible to get SSL certificate valid for mapped domain?

I just purchased a “domain mapping” upgrade for my blog. I bought a new domain and had my WP blog (apapadop.wordpress.com) redirect to thinkingspaces.org. It all works well, so now entering either URL results in my blog coming up. That’s fine.

The problem is that SSL connections to the new URL come up with nasty browser warnings, because the browser tries to talk SSL with thinkigspaces.org but is offered a certificate valid for *.wordpress.com and *.wordpress.org – which understandably is a domain mismatch.

Is there an option to purchase an SSL certificate designated for *.thinkingspaces.org, or any other way around this warning?

Please note: My concern is the user experience of new visitors to the blog. Asking everyone to add an exception for *.thinkingspaces.org to their browser is not the kind of solution I’m looking for.

    Thanks.

Your visitors shouldn’t see this error. You can use this URL, with no SSL:

    http://thinkingspaces.org/

To access your Dashboard, use the original URL:

    https://apapadop.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

My visitors would be the kind of people who would want to use SSL as much as possible.

Is it possible to access https://thinkingspaces.org without SSL certificate warnings? I’m happy to purchase a certificate, just not sure how WP facilitates this.

I’m sorry, but we don’t currently support custom certificates for mapped domains.

However, there should be little risk in allowing the certificate for *.wordpress.com to be used with your domain. If you feel your visitors might be interested in this, you may want to include a note about switching to https and adding an exception for this certificate in your sidebar.
