Possible to keep posts page hidden temporarily?
-
I’m setting up wordpress.com site as a traditional website with Front Page being designated for something other than posts. The site is currently private, and intended to be public within a month.
Currently, I have not designated any page for posts, but while developing the site, I am now looking to add that, but would prefer to keep that hidden, perhaps until well after I make the site public.
As this seems atypical from the many other wordpress sites I’ve set up (both .com and .org), I am wondering how this will work?
My thought right now is to:
1. add the blog page, as “News” (done)
2. Under Menu (customized), this page is not currently added, which is good for me
3. go in Reading Settings and designate this as Posts Page
4. go ahead and add posts as I normally would with other blog sites, and posts will remain hidden as page isn’t added to menu yetBut 3 and 4 are what I’m confused by as, I’d rather not have the posts show up when I go to make site public. But rather have that section appear when I add that page to the menu.
As I’m sometimes nervous about breaking a wordpress site, I thought I’d come to forums to ask if this can be done in way I’m thinking, or if I ought to instead make it as:
3 – Add News page to Menu, with note on that page of “coming soon”
4 – Write up any posts I wish to write up now, but just keep them in draft mode until they are ready to be sharedThanks for any and all feedback.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I chose to go with original thought, with change that I am just drafting posts.
This means no posts will show up on the blog, and currently the blog area isn’t visible anywhere on the site. This is what I was looking for.

If you create a static front page and fail to designate another page for posts to appear on then they cannot be accessed.

I got that. I have designated a page for posts to appear on, but have intentionally kept it off the Menu. My original inquiry was dealing with that scenario.

Okay then what exactly is it that you need help with please?

For page visibility see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/If you are looking for advice I’m along time blogger. I never ever make my sites private and then change them to public because it takes weeks to have the content indexed. I never ever create static front pages on my sites because doing so is a traffic killer. No returning blogger wants to be compelled to click through the same page with that same blah, blah, blah every time they come to read new content on a blog. Newcomers need to locate recent content immediately or they may not choose to follow the blog.
