Possible to Retain WordPress domain name Upon Upgrade?
-
Hi, i ran out of storage so I was planning to upgrade. However, it seems that my domain name will be changed once I do? Is there a way to retain my current domain (with the .wordpress.com domain) ? I do not want to change my domain name because i have a lot of links between blog entries and I don’t want to have broken links on my previous posts.
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The way the new domain is implemented you won’t have to worry about broken links, everything will get redirected correctly. The first year of domain registration is free.
If you really don’t want it though, you don’t have to use it.
They do offer just a storage upgrade of 50GB, but it costs $600 a year. The business plan includes the same 50GB of storage for just $300 a year.

oh cool. This wasn’t clear when i clicked on the upgrade tab, and there was no option to retain the original domain prior to payment so i got confused.
thanks!

@noroadstofollow, I want to assure you that our upgrades bring more than just a custom domain name. Each plan level comes with additional benefits, such as an ad-free experience, access to customizations, and more! If you prefer, you can opt out of the custom domain option and retain your free noroadstofollow.wordpress.com domain. You can check the different plan options here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
I hope this information is helpful! Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions before making a purchase.

Does that mean that there really isn’t a way in which you can upgrade your plan to premium but keep the wordpress.com in the url?

hi, i just upgraded. You can choose not to avail of the free custom url and retain the original one upon payment, so i chose to retain. It’s just odd that this option didn’t show up prior to payment.

Hi,
Upgrades and paid plans open the door to new possibilities and options:
You can keep your current free WordPress.com URL or you can use your custom domain and this won’t affect the functionality of your site or break any link ;)
@noroadstofollow In fact, now that you have upgraded to a Starter plan, you can claim for free the first year of custom domain registration: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/personal-plan/#free-domain-for-one-yearIf you decide to claim a custom domain, just letting you know that we also offer that we offer a Professional Email service: https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/adding-titan-email-to-your-site/ It is more affordable than Google, plus it comes with 3 months for free :)
Let us know if you need further assistance, and we’ll be happy to help!
