Post by Mail, Post by Voice- how does it work ?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I searched on this Forum for Search by Mail and Search by Voice. I would like to see a link where this is explained, how to use it.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I searched the support pages for “post by email” and “post by voice” and came up with these:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/

    Post by Voice

    The support pages are absolutely jammed with virtually everything you could possibly need to know about using wordpress.com. Sometimes you might have to search around to find the right term to use, but it is all there.

    The Support Docs are very good at answering most questions and should be your first stop. Use the search box there.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-voice/

    I hope this covers what you were looking for because in your thread title you say “Post by” but then in the thread “Search by”.

    Wow, a complete duet.

    The support post fails to point out what is the advantage in posting by email or by voice

    @justicewatcher

    It’s more less a preference matter more than a advantage matter.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @justicewatcher – it’s just having more choices in how to post to your blog. WordPress.com has since added Texting as well.

    Here are the original announcements about posting by email and by phone. Perhaps they will give you more insights.

    I set a friends blog up for email and they share some of their travel adventures and they are not always where internet access is good – so they write the Post as an email and send the email to the blog – in this case easier for them.

    I now prefer Windows Live Writer because I can write the article on my PC (usually takes a day or three including editing and review) then I can post the finished article.

    WP says:Post by Email is super simple to use. From the new My Blogs menu you can generate special email addresses:
    I can only see those adresses on the Dashboard. And that means I need to access a browser. But if I access the browser, I would use the browser to post and not email
    Besides, the mail adress is very difficult to remmember
    I do not want to see that Post by Email and Post by Voice columns but cannot remove them. I could remove them onlyh temporary with the Screen Options but they always reappear next time

    Put the email address in your email program under a contact name of “post.” Then when you want to send a post by email, start a new email and type “post” into your email client email address bar.

    There are lots of time-thiefs on WP.
    I said I would very much get rid of it. But it is always there on my Dashboard as if it was something very usefull, which it is not.

    @stenbocken, you said,

    I can only see those adresses on the Dashboard. And that means I need to access a browser. But if I access the browser, I would use the browser to post and not email
    Besides, the mail adress is very difficult to remmember

    That was what I was replying to.

    If you want to post by email, memorizing that email address is not necessary. You simply add it to your email contact list/address book. Thousands of people are using the post by email and probably that many are also now using post by voice. What YOU see as worthless, others find very useful. I don’t post by email or by voice, or by SMS text, but all three of those options are available to me if I want them.

    I sent in a support ticket on the issue of those three things not staying gone from that page, so hopefully in a little bit staff will have fixed it.

    And truthfully in all the time that page has been on our dashboards here, I’ve been to it probably a total of 3 times, and two of those times was in trying to help you make those columns disappear. Frankly I suspect it is a page that more people visit very, very seldom. If they want to switch from one blog to another they just use the pulldown from the grey admin bar at the top of their browser when they are logged in. Even though there is a bug that needs to be fixed, I simply don’t see it as something to fret over really, but then again I’m not you.

    Not everyone is YOU. What you find useful others might find a waste of time. What you find NOT useful, others find useful.

    GOOD ! also Publicize should be possible to remove permanently
    I would rather go to a coffee house and sip a coffee, watch people pass by, then twitter with them

    I just got a reply back from staff, and this issue is fixed. I tried it in my test blog and things stay gone. Publicize too.

    re: There are lots of time-thiefs on WP.
    I have been on the internet for a long time – long before any negative connotation eschewed to my username. FWIW I took this username because I twice stole my life back from the grim reaper after being declared dead.
