Post Carousel Block Error ‘Cannot be Previewed’
-
I’m getting an error on all of my post carousel blocks that says ‘This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed’. I’m using one of the default themes. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi there,
Which site is this for? I see you have a few on your account. I visited both of the sites under your account but I did not see a post carousel. Can I see this on your homepage? Or is it a specific place I need to look at?
Thanks for pointing it out!

Hey there,
Yes, I have a bunch distributed through a few pages, including the homepage, for the Course Offerings site I’m working on. It doesn’t show on the preview, but in each space I’m getting the same error message when in editing mode.
Thanks for your help!

Would you be willing to share a link to your site? I see two on this account, but neither have features like the slideshow you’re describing.

Hi there,
Here is the link: https://denisonphilosophycourseofferings.wordpress.com/
Under where it says No Prerequisites on the main page, there are blocks in my editor view that give the error message. The blocks do not show on the preview or when I view the site.
I have tried deleting and re adding, but it still isn’t working.

Just out of curiosity, what browser are you using? Does it happen if you try a different browser? Are you using any browser extensions? Can you try disabling them and seeing if that changes things?

When I’m looking at the page, I don’t see the carousel on the live site or in edit. Can you add that back in again?
Or, if you’d like, you can make a private test page and add it there so it won’t disrupt your front page for now. Please do leave it in place though so we can see if we’re seeing the same thing on our end.

I haven’t deleted it off of the homepage. It shows the block with that same message. All of that block type on any page show the same message. I deleted and re-added multiple times. I also tried making a blank page and adding it, but it does the same thing.

Let’s start with a new test page, re-create the block there, and only that block.
Does the error return after saving with the desired images?

Ok, what is the title on the test page? I’ll see what I can do there, so that I don’t have to affect the rest of your site.

Ok, so I do see the problem on the test page, and every time I add that block there it fails.
But, on my own test site, even with the same theme, it works.
Hever is a template-heavy theme though, so maybe it’s template-specific. What template did you choose for this page?
If you don’t recall (the new editor doesn’t make it easy to see the selected template yet), let’s try another new test page, but this time with the Blank template.

I think for now the theme you are using is fine. Out of curiosity, have you set a ‘featured image’ for all of your blog posts? The “Post Carousel” block is used to display a visual representation of your blog posts, and to do that a background image of some kind needs to be used.
Please set a “featured image” for each of your blog posts by following the steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/featured-images/
Once you have set a featured image for each post, if you add a carousel block does it display correctly? Or does it continue to show the error message when you add it.
