Post Categories to pages

  • Unknown's avatar

A partner blog WidenI77.org (I manage both but didn’t set up the first one and hope I didn’t goof up the new one)

Posts appear on a “Post” page. I like the way that works as each “Post” has a reply/comment space below it, as opposed to someone having to scroll to the bottom of the page to remark.

The new location – Tollfreenc.org – I don’t see that posts go to any page , although appear in the Recent Posts Widget on the sidebar.

    a) How can I have posts go to a post page?
    b) Can I have post categories assigned to specific pages?

Reason, there are “Posts” that are used to inform people of activities/actions (Please come to this meeting – here is why / or / The meeting was held and this is what happened)

There are also “News” items that are published by the media and we like to bring them onto a “News” page – it seems posting the news item and categorizing it as NEWS – so it would appear there – would be excellent. Then I could have a few Post Categories where the category choice would have it appear on the specific page — without editing the page. I think the overall formatting would also look better?

I can’t find any info on how to do this – is it currently possible? At minimum I should be able to have posts appear on a page?

    Help

    Thanks
    Richard with WidenI77.org and Tollfreenc.org

    Hi Richard,

    a) How can I have posts go to a post page?

You can have your posts go to a post page by following the directions to set up a front page here: Front Page

I see that you already have your front page set to display a static page — this is set in your blog’s dashboard under Settings > Reading. To finish the process you can create a Posts page (under Pages > Add New in the dashboard) and then set that to be the posts page under Settings > Reading. Your latest posts will show up on that page.

    b) Can I have post categories assigned to specific pages?

You can create links to your category pages, which will display only posts from that category (and will update automatically with the latest posts in that category). The easiest way to do this is to set up a Custom Menu on your blog. I recommend that you look through the instructions for setting up your custom menu and then take a look specifically at this section: Adding Category Pages

If you have any questions about this or if you would like additional help setting these up, please let me know! :)
