  i don’t know tons and tons about css, so i’m wondering if anyone can tell me simply: is it possible for me to somehow NOT have the comment option on my pages? i don’t want any.

  Yes, and you don’t need the CSS upgrade. Just go to Settings->Discussion and disable comments on your blog. Unfortunately, you’ll still have the words “No Comments” or whatever on your blog, dependent on theme. You can not get rid of that without getting rid of all kinds of other stuff, too, and it’s not a simple CSS hack to do it in the first place.
