post content in sidebar widget

I have added a sidebar widget called ‘Booking’, which I can see OK in the customizer (Zuki theme).

I have also created a post called ‘Booking a place’ with the details I want to go in this sidebar. In the post I selected a category called ‘sidebar’, but it showed on the main page. Then I tried selecting the category called ‘Booking’ but that didn’t work either.

How do I put the post content in the widget?

    Thanks,
    Laura

    Hi there,

Your “Booking a Place” post is marked Private, so it won’t show up on the front end of your site. If you uncheck the private box it will show up as expected.

Note: Your whole site is private so even without the box checked, the only people who will be able to see the post are the people you’ve invited to view the site.

Let me know if you have any questions about that!

    Hi Liz,
Thank you, it’s OK now. So while I’m preparing my site and getting everything ready, but I don’t want it to be seen by the public yet, how do check how it looks? Do I have to keep selecting and unselecting the privacy option?

Because you have your whole site set to private, you don’t need to set the posts to private. No one can see your site right now except you (and WordPress.com staff).

Once you are ready for the site to go public you’ll change the privacy settings for the whole site here:

The purpose of the Private checkbox on posts is if you want to make an individual post private on an otherwise public site.

    Does that make sense?

Yes, makes sense. One thing that puzzles me about that Reading option, I’m sure I saw choice at the top of that ‘Reading Settings’ page, about choosing whether the front page was a static page or a post. I never see that anymore. Is it theme-dependent? If not, why has it disappeared?

It’s not theme dependent. If you go to your settings>reading page it’s still there. I’ve copied a direct link for you below:

You can also get to that information by opening your customizer and clicking “front”

Let me know if you have any questions about that.

Thanks Liz. That’s all for now.
