Post content not showing up on homepage

  First time developing a site!

  The theme I have is set so recent posts will appear below the “home page top area.” I tried a few test text posts and only the title appears however, the entire photo post I created displays. I’m trying to figure out how to change the display so a preview of the text will appear.

  Also, there is an area for widgets under the “recent posts.” I deleted all of them but the “search” and “recent posts.” The “recent posts” widget does not link to anything. I’m wondering why the photo post (and test posts) do not appear here.
